The best pasta we have ever eaten anywhere so far. We went back for an additional pasta just in a couple of hours to make it before closing time since we were flying out the next day. We regretted not having tried the pasta here earlier on in our Rome trip. You must try the Tonarelli Cacio e pepe with the truffle (they charge a very acceptable premium of just €8 to add truffle to the select pastas on offer). We also loved the Amatriciana and Carbonara. My favourite cacio e pepe and carbonara in our fortnight long vacation, now you know that we’ve tried a good number of places before this. The host is a very humble, kind, professional gentleman. Their cook is super fast, though the place is small, it’s very hygienic as you can see the entire kitchen. They off good amount of cheese toppings and for additional cheese it’s again a very very reasonable amount of €0.50. The place is quite eco friendly as they don’t serve in plastic containers to sit or to go. My pictures definitely don’t to justice to how good everything tasted. My verdict is that this is a must try pasta place for anyone who visits Rome. Their local beer options are also great, the host suggested Messina beer and we loved it. Cost for two with beer will be less than €15 without alcohol, with beer it will be less than €20. This is very nominal for the 5 star service they offer. If you go for the pasta with truffle you can add €6-8. We will definitely go back here on our...
Read moreThere is something very satisfying about seeing your food prepared fresh right in front of you. And the meal only taking 10 minutes from order to table (just enough time to make the perfect al dente pasta) makes it even more special. We were a group of four and half ordered calcio e Pepe with lime and the other half amatriciana and we were all pleased. The portion sizes are more than ample so you leave full and with just enough space to get gelato around the corner. This pasta refueled everyone after the Vatican museum and climbing St Peter’s dome. The Staff is friendly and they speak English if you need it. It is a take out place so seats are limited to a couple tables outside and a 4 chairs at a small bar inside so if you can wait to eat, there’s a park a 10 min walk away behind Castle San Angelo called Parco della Mole Adriana where you can eat or you can sit on the steps below Angel bridge in front of Castle St Angelo and watch the Tiber River flow by. If you are on the hunt for the perfect calcio e Pepe in Rome this...
Read moreWe stopped here casually after visiting the Vatican and ended up having one of the best pasta meals of our entire trip to Italy! My husband and I traveled for 10 days through Florence, the Amalfi Coast, Capri, and Rome, and we had pasta every single day, but this spot easily made it to the top of our list.
Each pasta dish was around €8, and we couldn’t resist trying four different kinds: amatriciana, bolognese, truffle, and carbonara, all incredibly well-cooked, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The portions were generous, the ingredients fresh, and the flavors beyond amazing.
It’s one of those simple, authentic places that surprise you with just how good everything is. Absolutely worth a stop if you’re in...
