This restaurant had really delicious food with great artistic presentation. We actually went there twice on our three day stay in Rome. It can be really hard to find good restaurants even in Rome nowadays because they are all tourist traps and serve terrible quality food. The bad ones have people standing outside the restaurant calling at you trying to make you eat there which is a sure sign that you don’t want to eat there. So every time we return to Rome we look for authentic delicious cooking that also has people who take pride in the presentation and are able to mix beautiful presentation with delicious taste. This restaurant is right on the mark. We had some sort of beet cake with a cheesy sort of sauce on top and sprinkled with walnuts. It was absolutely amazing. We also had this other I think it was called a cake but it was basically stacked grilled vegetables with some sort of sauce and it was amazing. We had buffalo mozzarella it was great. We had something called carpaccio, which is raw meat and it was fabulous. My kids really wanted carbonara because it was their favorite and it wasn’t on the menu and I asked the owner (The owner actually does most of the serving and was really accommodating) if we could have it anyway and she said they could make any of the typical pasta dishes even if they were not on the menu. She said that each menu is seasonal and she changes it often and that anyone can just ask for the typical pasta dishes of the different cities and they can make them. So in the end, she made us the best carbonara we ever had —see the pictures. The prices were reasonable this...
Read moreMy husband discovered this little gem by chance while walking around the center of Rome. I resisted going, since we were traveling with our 3 teenagers and thought it sounded a bit too "creative" for them. Big mistake!!!! We went for dinner on our last night in Rome, and my only regret is that we didn't try it earlier on our trip so that we could have gone twice! This little place is run by three young sisters and it is absolutely delicious! It is a bit "creative" in the sense that they prepare dishes with local, fresh, Roman ingredients in a slightly different way than every other place in the city. For instance, I ordered the amitriciana, but the owner recommended instead the similarly prepared pasta with artichokes. It was delicious! My youngest daughter is vegetarian, and il Desiderio has the most interesting and delicious vegetarian options of any restaurant we came across. Smoked cod balls, pasta with sea bass, pecorino cheese with honey . . . I could go on and on. And, to top it off, the service and the wine selection were superb. A fantastic find -- only sad that we...
Read moreWe first discovered this place because our first restaurant choice was full. You wouldn’t know it was there if it wasn’t for the golden retriever laying in the street. A small entrance and a hand written menu taped to the door is the only indication you’re at the right place. Literally everything on their menu is made fresh and is delicious. It’s as if you’re at your friends house for dinner. Staff is welcoming and friendly with great wine and for suggestions from their menu. This is what you’re looking for if you’re in search of an authentic local place that locals eat at. I saw the same older gentleman in a suit at the restaurant the 3 times we dined there, getting dinner after a long day. I cannot recommend this place enough. It’s a hidden gem away from the crowded street eateries with tables in the street. We liked the squid pasta. Also the lady working offered us complimentary after dinner drinks each...
