Some things to know before visiting this classic restaurant in Rome. First of all I saw this restaurant on Instagram since their pasta is everywhere so I had to try it. The Alfredo pasta is better than you can imagine, it's beyond perfect. The Bolognese is actually even better than the Alfredo, probably the best Bolognese you've ever had. The food is by far some of the best I've ever eaten and deserves more than 5 stars. That being said the service is not excellent. Obviously I do not expect other people to speak English. But some of the staff was a bit rude. For some reason it was very difficult to find my name in the reservations book and I had to show it to them. The waiter that took our order, dark brown hair relatively young, was excellent however and very helpful. Now the atmosphere itself is also excellent. The restaurant is very beautiful and I have nothing bad to say about the décor or anything else related to the room. The toilets need to be cleaner though. However, one thing that ruined the experience was definitely the musician that played live from table to table. I find this practice very cringeworthy especially given that I do not speak the language. Also, I find it very disruptive that I try to talk with my partner and someone is playing music very loudly above our table. We just wanted to have dinner on our own without being bothered. Of course the musician was allowed to play music, they did not enter without permission which I think is very wrong. The service was great from the waiter but not everyone else, the night however was ruined by the musician. Is the restaurant worth it? Obviously, if you do not mind someone playing guitar over your head and you're fine with bad communication and some rude staff. The food is by far one of the best I've had in my life. The Alfredo is so worth it and I can't wait to go back for more. The Bolognese is made in heaven for sure. The tuna salad was also very good. So, definitely visit the restaurant for the food but don't expect much in every other aspect. Unless you're lucky and the musician is not there on that day. This is a very famous restaurant in Rome that is only worth it...

We arrived at the restaurant without reservation. The restaurant was empty and a waiter said it was impossible to eat there without reservation, even the empty restaurant. With a bit of insistence and asking another attendant, we got a table. It seemed we were doing the favor of being there. Grumpy and uneducated waiter. It took time for us to meet and all we needed was a hardship to ask the waiter. I do not tell anyone about this restaurant, because in Rome there are a lot of good restaurants with great service and quality food.

Anyway, this FAMOUS IL VERO ALFREDO, is just a false image that the famous and expensive is always good!

Stay here the tip is do not waste the time...

This restaurant is absolutely ridiculous. I had already read that it is purely a tourist scam, but unfortunately I decided to see it with my own eyes: the waiters are not waiters, but thieves. They systematically charge unsuspecting tourists for things they didn’t order hoping that they won’t notice or will be embarrassed to complain about it.

When we sat, they literally offered us water 4 times. After 3 negative responses to the waiter, I finally said that he could bring some tap water if available.

After we ate the appetizer we ordered, they brought the second plate BEFORE the first plate. When I questioned the waitress about it, she didn’t even apologize and just asked if I wanted her to take it back to the kitchen.

Food is just average, as is the fettuccine alfredo which btw costs 22€ for a small portion. It’s good, but you can find another equally good in any street food restaurant that charges you 10€ for the meal.

When the waiter brought the bill, for my surprise (or not), they were trying to charge me for some bread I didn’t order nor consumed, and of course for the tap water they almost obliged me to accept. When I said that I wouldn’t pay for tap water, the first waiter pretended he didn’t know what tap water is, so I had to google it and show him. Then he said that they don’t offer tap water, so obviously I told him that he should have told me so right after I asked for it. After that, he called another waiter who came and just repeated everything the first one had said. When I insisted that I wouldn’t pay for tap water that they offered me repeatedly, he called another man who seemed to be the manager. He threatened me saying that I should wait because he was going to call someone, and then he just left. At this time I felt unsecure about what he was going to do and paid for the water.

If you are trying to decide if you should go or not to this restaurant, please take a look at the other reviews that mention the staff aggressive and misleading behavior, because mine was not an...

This is where Fettuccine Alfredo came from. He started working in his parent’s small restaurant around 1908. For his wife, who was weakened after a childbirth, he went to the kitchen to prepare a something to help her. He used hand-made semolina noodles, butter and parmesan cheese to make a dish for her. He said a prayer, gave it to her and she enjoyed it. She enjoyed it so much that she asked him to add it to the restaurant menu. He then decided to open his own restaurant. The rest is history. When you walk in the restaurant, there are hundreds of photos of famous people over many decades who have dined there. The fourth generation descendant Alfredo still attends the restaurant. You can watch and/or video the server toss the fettuccine in front of you before they serve to you. It is an incredibly tasty dish. We so enjoyed it that we went back to the restaurant again for another meal. In the same league is the bruschetta which is also fantastic. Truly one of the best meals we have ever had. Many thanks to Christian, our server.

We came here to try some authentic Alfredo and the experience definitely didn’t disappoint! The place is beautifully decorated and they have a small, but nicely arranged menu. They seem to not only specialize in pastas done in Alfredo sauce and style, but also fish and steak. We saw several of their huge steak come out and be finished tableside on a sizzling plate. Their traditional Alfredo pasta also comes out to be finished tableside, which is very nicely done. The flavors were so very good and there’s plenty in a single dish to share, thus allowing you to try more items. They have a decent wine and cocktail list and their service was pretty decent too. I’d definitely recommend a visit for dinner, but make sure to make a reservation, they are quite popular.
