I first discovered this restaurant two years ago while in Rome, drawn by its dedication to traditional Roman cuisine. Unfortunately, it was closed at the time, and I missed my chance to visit. A year later, I saw the chef on a cooking show and admired her passion for reviving Roman food traditions. I was thrilled to learn it was the same restaurant, and made a reservation months in advance for my return trip.
When we finally dined there, I was excited not just for the food, but for the chance to experience the warmth I had seen on screen. The chef did appear—but the welcome was far from warm. After a firm interaction regarding my autistic daughter’s movement around the patio (which I understood), it became clear we weren’t going to get the same graciousness extended to other tables, especially the locals.
While I respect the culinary mission of the restaurant, the food didn’t live up to the anticipation, and the atmosphere left us feeling unwelcome. It may be a great spot for locals, but for tourists—especially families or lively groups—it’s worth considering whether the experience will be as inviting.
The food itself was ok but I’ve had by far better elsewhere in Rome. This really is not worth the stop, especially given the cold reception of the owner.
But I do want to give credit where credit is due: the waitresses who served us were very nice and made an effort to speak English, although it wasn’t necessary given we are originally from Rome. But we appreciated their effort to make us...
Read moreThis was a wonderful find, a Michelin Gourmand Bib restaurant just half a block away from our Airbnb. The owner is charming and friendly, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, and the food is both delicious and ambitious (pig head and tongue is on the menu!)
We started with the bread with Sabina DOP olive oil and Aceto Balasmico Di Modena balsamic vinegar. This is by far the most devious olive oil balsamic vinegar I've tasted on this trip! I'll have to find this back home.
The meatball was great, as well. It's another antipasti I would recommend, although I prefer the potatoes over the chicory.
The Gaspacho was light and delicious, and the beef tartare was nuanced and tasty.
The Amatriciana pasta is deceptively simple, yet layered in its taste. It's a fine example of what excellent tomato-based sauce can be, and I can eat this pasta many times over. Even our waiter has a hard time to choose between this and the carbonara, popular pastas here.
Finally, the tart finishes the night off just right. Not too sweet, not too creamy or...
Read moreRoman tripe was good but nothing special. We ordered 2 special of the day (bruschetta with artichokes and mint; and « delicious » fried chicken with pepper sauce. Both were disaster unfortunately. It was one bruschetta for €14 and 5 pieces of chicken breast with breadcrumbs for €18. Fried mozzarella sandwich from the starter was also not good. Just fried sandwich with mozzarella inside - American chain Bennigan’s used to have something similar and theirs was better and cheaper. Carbonara was also nothing special but just an average. All in all I don’t think it is worth of Michelin bib groumand and will never go back.
By the way, when it comes to Roman Tripe dish, I strongly recommend you visiting here: Osteria Garbaldi!! (https://maps.app.goo.gl/xRNLumVFzyAuS1WV9). With 1 pasta, Roman tripe, 2 simple kids pasta and 1/4 wine, we paid €40. Compare to « L'Osteria della Trippa » which charged us over €100, Garbaldi definitely...
