It was our first day in Italy, still reeling from a red-eye from Chicago to Boston to Rome. We managed to stagger out for a late lunch, then found ourselves hungry well past the dinner hour. Intending to just grab some small plates, wandering the neighborhood, we found La Buca Romana. Sensing that the vibe was nice, we stepped inside... and saw the refrigerator full of prime beef. Sold, and so much for light bites. Our charming and professional master of ceremonies for the evening, Sahin, recommended the steak Florentine. Having lived in the US midwest for five decades, I know (and love) beef, but had never had it Florentine style. Again, sold. My lovely wife, who is from Penang and lover of anything that lived in the sea, opted for the souté de cozze e console (sautéed mussels and clams). Serendipity times two. The Florentine steak preparation was an exercise in entertainment and salivation. The kitchen put just a hint of a sear on the steak, then Sahin carved it and laid slice after delectable slice of prime beef on a fiery hot iron plate, atop rosemary and hints of garlic, so every slice ended up a delectable medium, bursting with aromatics. (I am definitely going to try this at home.) Meanwhile, my wife, who knows a thing or two thousand about seafood, fell in love with her dish - even the savory broth in which the clams and mussels bathed. (I'm not a huge fan of mussels, but these were the best I've tasted. We share.) Thank you, Sahin, and to your chef, for an evening to remember.

We had an amazing experience eating dinner here. They hand-cut the steak at the time of our order and cooked it table-side. Absolutely delicious. Same with the Sea Bass. They gave us complimentary champagne when we got there and biscotti at the end. Everything we ate was really, really wonderful. There was just so much of it! We should have asked the cost of the steak and fish when he recommended it to us. The menu pricing was very reasonable so we were a little surprised when the bill wound up being over $200 for the 4 of us, even though my son shared the steak with my husband and didn't order a meal of his own. Still, we really felt the food was simply wonderful and we chalked it up to a great gastronomical experience. We enjoyed the live music as well. I will say, however, that usually Italian restaurants charge a cuperto per person and a tip is not expected... at least not a 20% tip like in the U.S. But, the gentleman who served us and seemed to run/own this restaurant made sure to tell us several times that our bill didn't include his tip. We did include a tip, but what turned me off was him pushing the matter and then he came up while we were still there to open the folder to see what we had left him. Overall, we'd do it again. Just know in advance to ask about prices of things suggested and plan that a tip is expected.

TLDR: flavourful food, not overly salty (like what we’ve experienced in Italy so far), would give 4 stars (docking 1 as there were a couple of small little flies hovering at our table) but the food was surprisingly good so we’ll easily give 5 stars. Was looking around for risotto in Rome on google maps and chanced upon this place on a Sunday evening, we were quite early for dinner at about 5.45pm. We ordered the seafood risotto and the grilled squid, along with a bottled beer and a glass of white wine. Seafood risotto was really really good! Not overly salty and rice was cooked well. Generous medley of seafood (clams, mussels, prawns, squid), which gave the rice a succulent ocean flavour. Grilled squid was so fresh! Not gonna lie, we initially ordered this thinking it’ll be fried calamari; our hungry state marred our vision, menu clearly states “grilled squid” but we only read Calamari. Anyways it was a good mistake! Squid was so soft and yummy, and again not overly salty. Cons: the only room for improvement would be the few little flies we experienced during our dinner. Overall, thank you for setting our expectations for risotto and grilled calamari! Recommended place to try!

“The best restaurant experience I have ever had!”

Me and my family had the best night ever together here whilst we were on holiday from 🇬🇧 uk.

We were on our way to a part of rome for dinner and we needed to change bus number. Whilst waiting at the bus stop outside the restaurant our attention was drawn towards La Buca Romana. Their menu was inviting and the lovely sound of piano music was enjoyable. Masimo our waiter came to ask if we needed any assistance and instantly we felt very welcome and wanted to come inside. Masimo was not trying too hard to get us inside and as brits we found that very encouraging as we are put off by restaurant hosts trying to get you inside their restaurants.

We were out for dinner to celebrate three birthdays and Masimo instantly set the tone for an enjoyable experience by gifting us a welcome glass of fizz each and he was very attentive to our dietary needs.

These wonderful surprises continued throughout the evening as we were also gifted a delicious starter for the table, a sharing dessert which came with a sparkler and a singing restaurant wish us a happy birthday and then finished with complimentary aperitifs.

Masimo made us some delicious menu recommendations for our food and drink this evening which included our choice of mains which we were given another show stopping experience.

Masimo surprised us by bringing the kitchen to our table cutting and frying out meat dish to perfection.

I have eaten in many nice restaurants with wonderful food experiences but this is one the best experiences I have ever received.

Thank you Masimo and team for making our experience such a...

5 Stars – An Unforgettable Dining Experience in the Heart of Rome

La Buca Romana - our favorite dining experience in Italy by far. From the moment we stepped inside, the staff was warm and inviting. This was in stark contrast to another restaurant we had tried in the area. The ambiance was wonderful, ideal for a relaxed yet refined dining experience. Nice sized table for two, white cloth, charming lamp on the table, complimentary champagne, lovely friendly waitstaff.

The food was absolutely outstanding—every dish we tried was well-presented and tasted fresh and flavorful. We had the house red wine, the bruschetta, and two pasta dishes. We wish we were not so full so we could have had the steak florentine, which looked fantastic at the table next to us.

We would especially like to mention the restaurant director, who truly elevated our service. The friendliest Italian we met during our entire stay. Seriously, he was so nice (we had many other disappointing encounters with rude people in Italy). His kindness, passion for food, hospitality, and attention to detail made the evening unforgettable. He ensured everything ran smoothly and added a personal touch that made us feel like honored guests.

We highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy exceptional cuisine with equally exceptional service. We are from Wisconsin and thought the prices were very reasonable. We will go back if we ever find ourselves...
