Warning if you do not live in Rome, if you come to Rome to see the sights and you are even remotely considered a tourist seriously reconsider dining here! My wife and I have traveled to Paris, Spain, South America, Portugal and many other countries we have had really good service and bad service, but La Fraschetta di Castel Sant’Angelo is a restaurant to skip, because the utter contempt the servers have for tourists. My wife made a reservation with La Fraschetta di Castel Sant’Angelo a month before we visited Rome, she received an email confirmation which stated we have your reservation form the restuarunt. You need to know reservations are not required here just show up and you will get seated that is if you are a Roman. When we arrived we were ignore for about five minutes, we explained that we have a reservation a waiter, who then pretended that she had a reservation list, the waiter said we did not have a reservation. There were several empty tables outside where we asked to be seated, however the waiter said those tables are reserved. Our waiter then said you can sit next to the kitchen, what ever you do say no thank you and leave. We then waited about 10 minutes as people were seated right in front of us and none of them had a reservation! The server made no attempt to hide this from us, if I had to say the server and all the other servers seemed to have complete contempt for me and my wife. After about a ten minute wait we were reluctantly seated outside as requested, then we were promptly ignored, look if you want a decent meal with good service go to another restaurant that actually cares that you flew from the other side of the world to taste one of there dishes just leave. Businesses that treat their patrons with respect can easily be found within walking distance of La Fraschetta di Castel Sant’Angelo. I was astonished at how my wife was treated, I have left out some details, but once again 2,900 plus reviews really does not mean that this is a good place to dine. Now it took about an hour and a half for our order to come to the table, the Oxtail was either undercooked or over cooked and the Ariabita lack spice and flavor! By far our worst experience in Rome, La Fraschetta di Castel Sant’Angelo is not a place you want to try, skip it, not worth...
Read more3rd year straight in Rome in search of the best carbonara. I’ve found this place and I would highly recommend to anyone out there still looking high and low . Like most people , I usually find my place based on YouTube recommendations by influencer reviews. Now that I’ve tried most of the best place in rome . I can definitely say that this is ranked no.2 in my opinion after my fav king of carbonara place ( Google)!
A restaurant like this could be a Michelin standard by itself and definitely be a high end restaurant in so many other countries, yet this humble €12/- Carbonara is so perfectly done it’s unreal .
Even the so so ones served on a paper plate which I’ve tried further down at Vicolo del Cedro cost €14/- !
From the good quality eggs they used to get the nice yellow color , to the perfectly aldente spaghettoni , the perfect cream infused egg mix with well balanced Pecorino & Grana with guanciale fat to created the perfect taste not too salty and strong on the aroma with just the right amount of pepper and creaminess together with the crunchy style guanciale on top of it . I think I might have even tasted some guanciale skin too which was even awesome !! Just simply like what the Italians say Mama Mia and I would went on to visit the restaurant a 2nd time for dinner in 3 days knowing my high tasting palate would be satisfied.
Service was run by a group of cheerful young people mostly attentive , and always giving a warm smile to make you feel welcome . I made a reservation via WhatsApp from the local number provided on their website.
I’ve included some pics taken there on both occasions, do drool on it and mark it as a bucket list . You...

After having been recommended by our hotel for having great pasta dishes and reading the reviews online we decided to get there early for some much needed comfort food.
The "special" starter of meatballs had promise for what was to come but (deep fried and a little salty pork) but was quite nice.
The main courses on the other hand were completely disappointing, my partner has the "special" wild mushroom pasta, it looked pretty appetising apart from the sickly smell of I can only describe as the brine that shellfish has been steeped in overnight, the taste was non existent apart from what your olfactory picked up.
I had the "famous" carbonara, thoroughly looking forward after all the hype, reviews and reading the advertisement on the staffs shirts. Inedible...due to the overwhelming saltiness that made my kidneys hurt.
Not to be rude, we tried to eat as much as we could, and when asked by the lovely staff if the food was ok we said yes. When the staff saw the unfinished plates of food they questioned us and I explained that the food was too salty, they explained it was due to the cheese that's used. I absolutely love salty food, always have and always will but this was next level even for a Scotsman.
Overall the atmosphere was great the staff were lovely, friendly and polite but we were really let down...
