La Gensola Is located in the popular quarter of Trastevere. I went for a Sunday lunch with friends from abroad. We liked the diverse menu with many choices for vegetarians too and many fish dishes. We went for Carciofo alla Giudia and Chicory as starters, some had Spaghetti alla bottarga, spaghetti ai frutti di mare and pasta matriciana. They were all delicious and well presented. I went for ' polpette alla coda alla vaccinara: they were two paneered and fried flat polpette with an interesting filling, they came with two dipping sauces, one with tomato and the other quite original made with midollo ( what is inside the bone). As a main course I went for ' Trippa alla romana' which is served with cacio on top: It was super tender and tasty, a real treat. I made 'scarpetta' with bread.... Even my friend who hates tripe, tried the sauce with some bread and admitted it was very good! Only the monkfish came slightly overcooked and one thing we did not expect was that you need to ask for bread a they charge you for it, which is very unusual in Italy and for Time in particular. Two friends went for desserts that seemed to enjoy very much: cannoli and Apple Tart with cinnamon and ice-cream. Service was very good and friendly. I will go back...
Read moreThis was, without a doubt, the best restaurant we tried in Rome. Although we had no trouble getting a table, I recommend making a reservation. I think we were lucky because we arrived quite early just as it was opening, but it quickly started to fill up and many people were left without being able to dine here, which would be a shame to miss it!
The service is very attentive and detail-oriented, and the menu is so full of amazing options that it’s actually hard to choose. I also recommend it for people who are lactose intolerant or allergic, as it can be hard to find lactose-free options in many restaurants.
We had the calamari to start — they were delicious and super tender. The spaghetti alle vongole was without a doubt the best pasta dish I had in the city. The stracciatella mousse with chocolate really surprised me, and all of this was accompanied by the best Aperol Spritz we had in Rome.
Although the prices are a bit higher than in other restaurants, it is absolutely worth it if you’re looking for a great place to eat. And for the quality and service they offer, I’d even say it’s quite affordable. It will definitely be my number one choice when I return...
Read moreLook, this place isn’t really something I’d ever suggest, from my experience I found the service to be rough, pushy, and in general bothersome. The duck was fine but it’s contorno was burnt and bitter, the fish in salt was flavourless as well as deboned improperly leading to my father choking, it was paired with potatoes which tasted of water. The funghi and shrimp pasta was overcooked to another level, I swear I thought it was pad tie. The caponata was the only thing worth considering but even that was so oily, the cannelloni was obviously old and fried in dirty oil, the casata siciliana was just sugar on a plate and honestly felt like I was eating a spoonful of sugar. When I asked for the wine list I was given two bibles filled with unending/unneeded wines. The menu is far too big and unclear, it seems as though they’re aiming for more choices rather than higher quality products. I do have to say the server with blond hair was very kind, he’s very observant and was invested in giving us a good service. I really suggest for this restaurant to review its menu and condense it in a way for them to deliver a higher quality...
