*Update The restaurant manager, Paola, kindly came to our table and asked for more feedback to improve. She was very understanding, kind, and willing to listen to what we had to say about our experience. I am updating my review to 5 stars because I deeply appreciate any establishment that takes reviews and customer experience seriously. Paola made us feel heard and I am confident she will take our feedback to improve in the future. Outside of the wine and the payment the first day we were here for lunch, every other time we have been here has been great, especially for dinner. Our dinner server (Paolo? I believe. He has been living in Rome for 20yrs) was professional and kind as well.
The views are beautiful and the food was fresh and tasty, especially the supplì. You are paying high prices for the views and ambience.
We are here for our honeymoon and staying at the hotel. We went here for lunch. My husband ordered white wine, I had water to drink.
The server who brought out the wine asked if I wanted a taste and I said yes. After the tasting, she poured us both a little bit to share, it was not at all a “full” glass of wine, which is what we asked for because I didn’t want my own. He ordered another wine, this time I did not want any more so they poured a full glass for him. She also offered us some bread. We had lunch and were given the bill.
They had charged us for 3 caliches of wine instead of 2. We also were surprised at the additional charge of bread, if we would have known it was not complimentary we would not have gotten it. When we explained this politely to our main server, she got a bit defensive and asked us why we didn’t call her over earlier. How would we have known ahead of time that you would have charged us incorrectly…? Also, there should be better communication between all the servers if multiple people are going to serve us then get confused on what we ordered. If we did order 3 wines, they also should work on consistent pouring of the wine (however that’s not what we ordered, we ordered 1 wine to share and 1 wine for my partner to enjoy, hence why two glasses were barely full the first time, and the second time it was a full glass). Rather than apologizing they seemed argumentative.
Another server who was a man came over to assist us again after fixing our bill to remove the additional wine we didn’t order, and asked if we wanted it charged to our room or to a card. My husband said please don’t charge it to our room, charge it to another card. The server takes our card and receipt away. When he returns, he tells us it was already charged to our room. We were a little frustrated because what was the point of asking if you were going to charge our room anyway?
Seems a little bit disorganized, they can work on customer service to ensure the guest is happy. After a long day of waking with our luggage through the hot streets we expected a little bit more care and...
Read moreRestaurants in Rome have their highs and lows… This was definitely a low for us.
only booking option was 9.30pm when we get to the restaurant, it’s decent but not what we expected given the prices on the menu the waiter gets to our table and pressures us into getting starters because “it is going to take a while to get your mains” (??) when the mains do arrive—after about 20 mins—they added truffle to my order, which is not the worst thing that could happen to you but… wasn’t my order, and obviously comes at a price. I politely declined, saying I was expecting my order. They did not like it but agreed to make another Carbonara, which I had asked for in the first place More than 20 mins later, my partner had finished her main and I was getting mine. It was fine. Our waiter had been switched… … but he came back to ask us if we wanted dessert, which we didn’t, because priority #1 was to leave this mess. He didn’t apologize (??) My partner was unexpectedly served a cup of shredded chocolate, I guess as a nice gesture after the mixup. But this came without an explanation, which is honestly weird Another waiter came to ask us if we wanted dessert, and a third one, too!! That seemed pushy and we just wanted the check When we did get it, we were charged 100% for all items, which is not common after a mishap. After some talking, we were given a 6 euro discount… not even the price of our water, and far from that of my main, which I had to fight and wait for
There are worse things in life, of course, and I’m not saying you can’t have a nice experience there. But we were disappointed and honestly quite shocked by the service (and atmosphere) for such a pricey meal. There are plenty of other great places that will treat you better with food and attention....
Read moreIf I could give less than one star - I would. I made a reservation 10 days in advance for New Year’s Eve. When I arrived - they could not find my reservation, told me I could not afford this place, and acted as if I had made some mistake. I showed them my email confirmation but they didn’t care. No one contacted me prior to arrival and I was fully aware of the cost of the special menu. I am a lawyer and it was less than my hourly rate - however, because I was a woman alone they made the assumption I could not afford it. Yes - the pictures looks beautiful but not even that is worth the horrible treatment by the staff and inability to manage their reservations. They completely ruined a much anticipated New Year’s Eve. Avoid at all costs- especially if you are a woman.
In response to the owner’s comment:
I never received any emails about the special occasion - I have checked all mailboxes
Additionally, I was looked up and down and asked if I had the money to pay. At no time was I offered a table or opportunity for you to honor my reservation. They simply said - we know everyone and tried to prove they emailed me to cancel. They also provided no proof that I was emailed. I had no choice but to leave.
I find your defense and misrepresentation of my treatment disturbing and I hope future guests can read my post to avoid your restaurant because clearly you have no remorse or care how your...
