First off, my husband and I are on the last leg of our honeymoon, and tonight was our first night in Rome and we created an account just so we could make a review on this restaurant.
This restaurant had the WORST SERVICE we've received so far. We've been to Paris, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Chianti, San Gimignano and Siena, and no restaurant treated us so rudely.
We sat there for about 20 minutes, many waiters passed, no drinks were offered, and we just continued to sit there. Finally, a lady dressed in all black approached our table. NOTE: if you see a skinny lady with dark, shoulder length hair wearing glasses....RUN.
She came up to our table, and with a rude, short attitude, said "so are you ready to order?" when we inquired about the menu, asking what the specialty of the restaurant was, her response was a mere "Whatever." Yes, seriously. She then pointed to the fettuccini with meat and no tomato on the menu, and I ordered the it to keep it safe. Honestly, my husband and I would've left then, but it was raining out, so we decided to suck it up and wait for the food.
While waiting for our food, we received no bread basket, no water, and our wine came right before our meal came to our table. It was a little past 7pm, the restaurant wasn't busy, and waiters were more concerned about making boxes for pizza than giving us the time of day.
My food arrived, and my fettuccini tasted like instant pasta I could get in a box at the market in the US.
So it's safe to say I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to sit in a nice, warm place with rude service and...
Read moreThis restaurant recommended to us by th desk clerk at our hotel in Parioli. We told her we have a picky eater, and he had gone hungry the night before. When the taxi dropped us off, we were confused because our restaurant was not in sight. There is construction in the street in front of Taverna Rossini, so we walked next door to find the right place. Once inside, we were treated like family. The restaurant has a homespun feel to it a real family atmosphere. There is an extensive menu, with many fine dining choices for the adults, and burgers and pizza for our teenager. When we got the bottled water and focacia with olive oil and parmesan, I told my wife "if the bread and water are this good I can't to see how good the food is!". I ordered ravioli stuffed with prosciutto for primi and calamari and prawns for secondi. My wife had scallops of veal and mashed potatoes, and my son had a amazing hamburger with fries. One of the staff who spoke fluent English advised me how to eat the prawns (kinda like peel-and-eat shrimp) everything we ate was marvelously delicious. We saved room for creme brule and it was possibly the best I've ever had. Most American restaurants tell us they are sold out when we order our favorite dessert! No problem with Taverna Rossini! If you are in Rome, take the time to visit Parioli and be treated like kings at my new...
Read moreIn a 5 day stay we ate from there 4 times. Across the 4 experiences I would rate this 4.7/5.
We ate steak, pizza (which I had custom made), a range of pastas, veggies and caprese salad. Everything was excellent. I wish I did the rib steak which is dry aged and charged at a per kilo rate because the size of the cut can change a lot.... my assumption is that they cut it to order (being the nature of dry aged then it has to be this way).
Service was not always consistent but most staff had good or at least helpful English and their willingness to help you understand the menu and make a decision was most appreciated. We actually had one guy serve or assist in our service on 3 occasions and so the service got better each time. The restaurant is very busy - so service quality will change accordingly. This is to be expected and forgiven. We found that getting there before 12:30pm for lunch and 7:30 for dinner allowed for a quiet and efficient dining experience.
I consider this to be somewhat formal dining compared to the casual and informal restaurant dining experiences closer to the tourist sites.
Highly recommend - you can pretty much ignore any low ratings as in my experience I was say that these are rare experiences or so outdated that they are no...
