Waitress was really nice, and the beautiful medieval piazza seen through the big windows of the modern and shiny interior added to the experience.
For apps we had some charcuterie, which was disappointing in both size and composition, and a chicken liver pate which had very good flavour but was eye-wateringly salty.
Pastas looked very nice and were good portion sizes, but were underwhelming
The steakā¦. They have 5 different species of cow to choose from (weirdly no Chianina in heart of Tuscany). We took the Italian one, a Reggiano (like the cheese) beef. It was the most expensive item on the menu. Served by weight, we ordered the smallest possible size, which at 1.3kg was plenty for us. We were shown the cut before cooking⦠beautiful. It came out glistening and nicely presented⦠beautiful. It was, however, also underwhelming. From my seat I could see that the chef broke down the large steak to cook it in 3 parts, which meant there was a lot of well done āoutsideā. Like everything else we tried, it presented well, but just didnāt hit with taste and cuisson.
I can see summer evening in the patio for a drink, paying the premium price for the location and setting, and overall the place is not bad. For the price, however, I was expecting a lot more than...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a truly memorable birthday lunch here :) I happened to spend my birthday this year in Siena, and while searching for a place to enjoy a good T-bone steak, I discovered Locanda dell'Oste. I have tried many T-bone steaks in Firenze and elsewhere, but the unique presentation and warm ambiance of this restaurant immediately caught my attentionāand it turned out to be an excellent choice.
From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with such kindness and professionalism. The T-bone steak was the best I have ever had. They even helped trim the meat perfectly from the bone, allowing me to enjoy every bite. The bread served before the meal and the two types of pasta we ordered were also exceptional.
I wanted to try their homemade desserts as well, but I was already far too full. And thenāwhat a surprise! They remembered that it was my birthday from our conversation and prepared a traditional local cookie with a candle. It was such a thoughtful gesture and truly an unforgettable moment!
My birthday in 2025 will be remembered for a long time thanks to the wonderful meal and warm hospitality at Locanda dell'Oste. Thank you so much. I hope to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLocanda dellāOste is a hidden gem and well worth the trek! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for food lovers. We tried eight different dishes and two dessertsāevery plate showed real care and quality. The standout was the beef veal with mashed potatoes and raspberry, which was simply unforgettable. All of the pastas were excellent, and the tiramisu deserves special mention as the best dessert. Ravioli and octopus were good but didnāt quite reach the same heights, and the panna cotta was just okay for usāstill, the overall meal more than made up for these minor points.
While itās a little hidden away, the journey adds to the experience. For anyone seeking the famous Florence steak, the one we saw looked absolutely incredible and is not to be missed. Service is attentive, and the team clearly takes pride in every aspect of the meal.
Ideally, Iād rate Locanda dellāOste a 4.5 out of 5, but Iām happy to recommend it to anyone looking for superb Tuscan cuisine. Just bring an appetite and get ready for a...
