We went to this restaurant looking at the glowing reviews and were expecting a hidden gem kind of meal. But we were highly highly disappointed, which made us feel that many of the other ratings may not be genuine either.
The chef, who was working alone in the kitchen, was coughing and sneezing all over the place. No mask. No hand washing post coughing and sneezing while continuing to handle the food with his bare hands. It's a very small restaurant with 6 tables and an open kitchen so you can see everything happening in the kitchen.
Our amuse bouche had the chef's hair in it! The chef was watching us and didn't even care to apologise.
The red shrimp dish had shrimp which was still frozen and not thawed properly. Taste of the sauces was insipid.
The ravioli course was terrible. The ravioli wasn't fresh and was hard on the edges. Seemed it must have been a while back and kept in the fridge. Parts of it were still cold. Again, lots of effort on presentation with colourful sauces and foam but no taste.
The final turbot fish course had a sweet potato puree which tasted nothing more than bland potato and the fish didn't seem fresh either.
The dessert was ok, and sadly the only average dish on the tasting menu which otherwise had only terrible dishes. It was a millefeuille with a very sweet and very tart lemon creme. Something you would get at a cheap pastry shop but at least it tasted of something.
Overall, having paid 172 euros for a 4 course meal for 2 with hair in the food, frozen ravioli and shrimp, and insipid tasting food, I would call this place a complete rip-off.
Beware. Don't fall for the 4.8 ratings. You will waste your money. There are lots of other great places...
Read moreOkay so we have an interesting experience…there was a blackout. Now in a blackout, what’s the etiquette? What do you do? (As a patron). We had ordered a bottle of wine and the meat and fish tasting menu. We had the homemade bread and amuse bouche right before by power went out and I must say…WOW. The wine..wonderful. It would pair well with both the fish and the meat. Then the blackout happened. First off: if you’re a tourist, be aware of your behavior, it’s a privilege to be in sorrento. Now, we sat and finished our wine, while they encouraged us to do so. We smoked our cigarettes and observed. Truly, it was a beautiful time. We come from a place where there are constant black outs all summer, while they were apologetic, we were simply having so much fun. We sipped our wine and smoked cigarettes on the front. Honestly… very Michelin vibes (especially with the smoking). The only issue is with the geopolitical circumstances. We will call again to come back. But we didn’t pay for anything, they wouldn’t let us! We will 100% come back next time we’re in sorrento but seriously…just based off of our small experience…please go!!!
Also the amuse bouche was potato, octopus, and rice....
Read moreWhat an overall amazing experience! Food was A+ and very reasonably priced, atmosphere was perfectly intimate.
I've visited Michelin starred restaurants and lots of bib gourmand restaurants, and while this one definitely deserves the same recognition in terms of the food, the atmosphere and the informal attentiveness to guests felt way more special than what I have experienced before at restaurants.
You clearly feel that this is a new place with an extremely ambitious young chef that's working hard to make a breakthrough in the culinary world with his own place. That story in itself is so special and valuable, it makes the entire visit that much better. I'd urge them to tell a short story to guests about the place, as it goes very well along with the intimate atmosphere.
We had 3 dishes, 2 pasta and one dessert. One of the pasta dishes was a special one, his wife's favorite with fresh truffle. Everything was amazing in presentation and taste.
I cannot recommend it enough, please just go visit and support them!! All the best to Andrea and Lucia going...
