Ok. Hear me out. La Medusa was one of three places I initially chose to dine in during my stay in Siracusa. Please read my other places reviews. Ratings were high and pictures of food were inviting. We were passing this place several times before and always saw empty tables outside. But the young lady who was either wiping tables or cleaning the windows was nice and chatty. She also chatted with a stray cat and this made nice impression. So we came in around 8pm on Friday evening, ignoring the general suggestion to reserve tables, and were asked if we made a reservation. We told them we didn’t. Even though inside and outside was literally empty. So they offered us a table outside, which we actually were hoping for. Within literally minutes, all tables were filled with customers coming in couples or families or groups. Anyhow, menu was short but everything is seafood and fish. We ordered platter of swordfish, salmon and tuna drizzled with olive oil and lemon juice for a starter. God, it was big portion and of fresh fish slices. Seriously. Both of us had enough to enjoy. We then ordered a platter of spaghetti with seafood. It was once again generous and contrary to previously reviewed restaurant nearby, this was delicious and packed with flavor. For desert we had chocolate and pistachio fondant. Should I mention it was freshly made and to a high standard? I give this place five stars, even though we had to wait for the check for more than 30 min. But I knew exactly why - place was absolutely packed and staff was doing they best bringing out food. So no complaints from me. Please make sure to book the table beforehand and enjoy your...
Read moreFood was good enough but not outstanding. I am very disappointed about the service quality. I live in Germany which is called a service desert, so I don‘t expect too much for a service. But waiting 20 minutes to get a bill after we said “we’d like to pay” was a bit too much. In addition to that, after bill was given, we put cash and waited for another 10 minutes. No one came. In the end, we had to go to a lady and ask for a change. We paid coperto of course, but didn’t get any bread basket as other tables do. We usually pays tips regardless coperto, but here not even a single penny. My host recommended this place but I will tell him don’t do that anymore to next guests. Siracusa has a lot of nice restaurants with better services.
After 2-3 hours of dinner, me and my bf start to have stomach ache and diarrhea. Neither of us had this problem during last 10 days of eating same kind of sea food. So I decrease...
Read moreThis charming restaurant is located on a quiet and shady side street in Ortigia. Our little excursion group enjoyed a leisurely and delicious lunch at one of the outdoor tables. It seems to be a family-run restaurant with much attention paid to the quality and presentation of the food. I can highly recommend the grilled fish platter which arrives sizzling hot to your table. The dishes ordered by others in the group (seafood risotto, penne with eggplant) looked tempting as well. We started with bags of freshly baked little bread rolls, dipped in olive oil. That in itself was worth it! Portions are generous and service came promptly and with a smile for weary travellers. Overall, an excellent dining experience and terrific value for money. Highly recommend this as a ‘refuel and recharge’ stop between sightseeing in...
