When something great turns bad and then gets too terrible. We were already here with our friends, and as we liked the staff and the food, I came back with some new people to share the experience.
While I would have suggestions on making the menu easily readable, this is not the topic of this review. We ordered after a short wait, but the terrace was half full. It was a bit too much for one waiter, but he did his job. What confused me was that you get charged 2 euros just for sitting down, that's "the culture". Later, we ordered 3 pizzas and a beer and asked for some water. We were told we can order bottles at 3€/0.5l, the same ones or something similar, which is around 15 cents in the store. That's a 2000% price increase, are you insane? That wouldn't be a problem if they brought tap water on request, but that's not the Italian "culture". They brought us 3 small glasses of water to shut us up, but this "culture" where there is one price if you sit and another if you take it to go is pure greed and nothing else. Only seen in Italy. We won't be coming here ever again, and as I have the lucky job that lets me tell lots of people about this, I will definitely share this "cultural exchange" experience. Another thing worth mentioning is that while the food is good, the owner decided to cut costs in one more place. Cutlery is the name of the game. You get a knife with a plastic handle, with visible signs of wear. It's a bad Temu version, like I am sitting in a restaurant in the Albanian mountains surrounded by sheep and not on the busy restaurant promenade in Trieste. When the waiter served us, while friendly, he gave us the Italian menus. After asking for English one, he brought it, but it wasn't the updated version. Probably saving on costs again. One of the explanations for the water "culture" is that the restaurant has to pay for water, and that's the reason why they don't bring it to the table. Easy search tells me that the price for a 1000 liters is around 3€, so this is just another sad excuse to force you to pay crazy amounts for a small bottle of water on a hot day. This is a sad excuse for a culinary...

San Genna’ Pizzeria Napoletana is an absolute gem! If you’re in Trieste and love pizza, this place is a must. I was on holiday with my husband and baby, and after our first visit, we HAD to go back. It’s that good!
The service? Incredible! Every single person there is friendly, polite, and warmly welcoming—it’s like being embraced by the heart of Naples in Trieste. They made us feel right at home, even with a little one in tow.
Now, the pizza—perfection. Authentic Italian style with a crust so perfect it’s like a hug for your taste buds. Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can tell they use the freshest ingredients.
And don’t even get me started on their croquettes—crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. My baby couldn’t get enough of those fantastic potato croquettes, and neither could we!
And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we discovered their desserts! The pistachio tiramisu is hands down the best on this planet—creamy, rich, and bursting with pistachio flavor in every bite. And the cheesecake? Absolute perfection! Light, smooth, and with just the right amount of sweetness to round off an unforgettable meal. If you’re a dessert lover, you’ll be in heaven!
San Genna’ isn’t just a pizzeria; it’s an experience. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make sure you stop there. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. Love this place to pieces!

Read moreWe came in a group of 4 with 2 dogs for an early dinner. We found a table right away. The menu offers a bright variety of pizza options, including different pizze with tomato sauce and different pizze bianche (without tomato sauce). Also, one can find main dishes and sides. I was advised, that any (red) pizza can be made without cheese to meet my dietary requirements (lactose intolerance). Also, they prepare gluten free pizza, but this is not guaranteed 100% free of allergens because of the small shared kitchen space. It was the best gluten free pizza I have ever had!
The pizze are made to order but waiting time is quite short! The used ingredients are fresh and of really good quality. Taste is rich with good texture but overall not overbearing, chili oil or olive oil are available upon request when needed. All waiters are very friendly and helpful in making a decision what to chose from the extensive menu. Prices are incredibly modest for the good quality of the food. This pizzeria is a good place for people with all likings and I highly...
