I recently visited Bar Longhi and sat outside in Venice and had a rather mixed experience, which is why I'm giving it three stars. On the positive side, their special cocktail of the time was delightful and almost made me want to give an extra star. The interior and exterior of the bar are quite beautiful, and the seating is very comfortable.
However, there were some downsides. The bar is quite expensive, and I didn't feel that the experience fully justified the high prices. Additionally, the outdoor area has a bit of a pigeon problem. Several pigeons got close and one landed on me during my visit, which was quite disruptive, although I must admit that being given a toy water gun to shoot them away was a fun touch. Though that might be an indication that it is a common issue.
Another issue for me was the noise level. The bar is located in a busy area with boats passing by, making it quite loud. While Bar Longhi does its best to provide a pleasant experience, these issues detracted from my enjoyment.
Also - I find the Cannaregio area in Venice to be a better choice as it offers similar quality drinks and canal view in a quieter and more affordable setting. Overall, despite their efforts, I can only give...
Read moreBeen several times in several years, each year the service is decreasing and the level of professionalism is getting poorer and poorer. Waiter spilled our cockail on table ( his serving attitude was quite fast and with no manners which caused the liquids to spill out from the glass, fuuthermore he “ threw” the canapes on the table like there was no elegance in his manners) he said to us “ oh that’s the way it happens sometimes “…. ehm not really what you should say, maybe just say “ I am sorry”. Table was then a bit dirty of liquid, he didn’t pass to clean it.
Service is non existent for Venetian people, we used to dine on the terrace in the past years with the “ bar” menu, we were told that this service is for hotel clients only as the kitchen of the restaurant needs to “ breath” and give priority to the hotel. I would suggest not to allow external clients anymore and to leave the bar only to internal clients, if this is the mood. St Regis has a completely different approach, everyone smiling when you enter, top service and you never feel not welcome. Gritti is loosing his charme and is becoming a joke for the...
Read moreI am an avid user of the NYT 36 hours in "any city" series which is how I found Bar Longhi, a recommendation from the series in 2014. Typically their recommendations are spot on, but this one was a very poor experience. The bar and scenery were stunning, however, they are clearing catering to an elite clientele that showed both in the prices (€30+ per drink) and treatment of lesser status individuals like my partner and I. After finishing our drinks we sat for 30 minutes waiting for the check AFTER we asked for it. We watched the waiter continue to serve and bus other tables and bring checks to other tables as well. We asked for the check 3 times before it was delivered.
Venice is a stunning city and there are other places along the canal to get a great view of the Basilica Santa Maria Della Salute. Do yourself a favor and grab a cocktail at one of countless other scenic bars and restaurants around the city and...
