Majer Venezia is a little Cafe near our hotel the hotel Aquarius. They are a bakery, make their own cookies, pizza, cannolis, and light bites daily. The location is superb, out of the hustle and bustle of the Realtor bridge and St Mark's square. It's about a ten minute walk from those attractions. They serve alcohol in addition to the tasty treats you will see in the window. We tried the pizza, cannolis and cookies while we were there. I liked the pizza, although it wasn't my favorite kind. I prefer the flat crust pizza and this is more of a breaded crust. The cannolis we're probably my favorite and I liked that they had large and small ones. The bonus is that there is a great gelato place right next door, so after you're done eating you can top it off with that. The one thing I really wanted to try, but didn't have the room for, was the arancini. Sicilian Arancini are rice balls stuffed with cheese and other fillings such as cheese and meat, the coated with bread crumbs and deep fried. They were big and could definitely have qualified as a meal. I would recommend coming here and trying some of the fresh items...
Read moreWhen we entered, the café was completely empty aside from one staff member, so we expected a calm and pleasant experience. I politely asked if she spoke English, and although she confirmed, she immediately said, “Yes, girls, but hurry, hurry, I have work to do” in a dismissive and unfriendly tone. This response was surprising and made us feel as though we were inconveniencing her simply by being there.
I then asked if the café offered any iced coffee. Instead of kindly clarifying, the staff member seemed irritated, did not understand the word “iced,” and when I explained by saying “something cold,” she responded abruptly, “No, no cold coffee.” The tone throughout the interaction felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming.
We had initially intended to order coffee and several pastries, which looked very good, but due to this treatment we left immediately. As tourists, we value warm and respectful hospitality, and this experience left us disappointed. We felt that we were treated poorly simply for...
Read moreI was staying around the corner from this branch of Majer for four nights - my only regret is that I only treated myself to a breakfast here on my last morning! Venice is not short of places to get delicious things to eat (it totally does not deserve its reputation of somewhere hard to find good and reasonably priced food - just avoid the obvious tourist traps!) but I could have got very fat and happy eating just here, as they do a range of savoury items as well as patisserie. I had a ventaglio AND a cestina lampone, a tiny crisp pastry cup with whipped cream and a raspberry mousse, which was heavenly. The breads look amazing and so do the slices of pizza and other savouries. I sat outside and enjoyed the Campo life over my coffee. Seek out your local Majer in Venice and...
