We thought we'd happened upon a gem, given the high average star-rating, and the fact that this was a stone's-throw from our accomodation.
The attitude felt a bit off from the beginning, feeling like we'd inconvenienced them just by arriving. Might have been understandable if the place had been busy, but it wasn't. This was compounded by being placed at the bar to eat, despite there being tables available that never filled in the time we were there. And this was further compounded by feeling rushed by the waiter who continually reached over us to hurriedly clear away our cutlery holder, and other bits and pieces.
The pizza was okay. Flavourful, but a little soggy/doughy in the middle.
Felt like perhaps our faces didn't fit. Maybe just not a place that's enamoured with tourists?

Read moreStrazzaria was the first restaurant we ate at on our trip to Venice, and certainly the most memorable. We had the Zucca & Lardo and the Conciato & Fichi, paired with a red wine recommended by our waiter that I wish for the life of me I could remember the name of, as it was the best wine I may have ever had... The place was quiet, classy, and warm in atmosphere, tucked away from the crowds. The servers were kind and welcoming. The showstopper, however was the food - creative, yet really very well-done and well-balanced (coming from someone who rarely finds food memorable). The entire experience followed us to every other place we ate at while in Venice - nothing compared to the food at Strazzaria. Thank you for making our first night in Venice so special. We will be coming back, first thing,...
Read moreQuite tucked away from the busier parts of Venice within the Jewish Quarter, but the restaurant is worth tracking down even if not interested in the area around it. The outdoor area provides shade from the 35°+ temperatures of midday Venice and the surrounding area is quiet and calm. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. We ordered 1 Proscuiotto (Stracciatella e parma) and 1 Margherita pizza. While the Margherita was very tasty it wasnt anything groundbreaking. The Proscuitto however was perfect, easily the best we've had in Venice. Well fired, wonderfully fresh, and a sprinkling of olive oil on top to enhance the other flavours. Perhaps a little on the pricier side for Pizzas you can find but definitely worth every cent....
