This isn’t really about the food or the workers, but rather the attitude of the owner, which may give a bit of an indicator as to how he treats his staff and customers, if there is ever an issue.
My friend and I were sat on the edge of the canal outside (not their property, or anywhere near either of their entrances) eating gelato (4th night in a row - no mess, drunkenness or noise) when he came and told us it was illegal for us to be there eating. We were obviously confused as this is the 4th time, there were multiple other people, and ALL OVER VENICE everyone is doing the same. We’ve not left a trace behind us each time - and we’re very quietly chatting, not causing trouble or creating noise. He then proceeded to tell us he was calling the police on us, and got out his phone to call someone. Obviously, we could not tell who he was calling but we rolled our eyes and left…to join other people further down who were, you guessed it, eating gelato sensibly without causing issue.
We have no issue with being advised that apparently it is illegal to eat ice cream on the edge of the canal (even if others were doing it everywhere) but it could have been handled so differently. Give us a tip, advice, guidance - don’t be so petty as to then call (or act like you’re calling) the police on a Saturday night, when, let’s face it, they probably have much bigger issues to deal with that 2 ice cream laden sober 30 year old women. Speak to the other people who are doing it, not just the only two women! Answer our question of “can we stand and eat it?” (Which he ignored) and explain why the police who went past yesterday didn’t...
Read moreI had Palazzina recommended by my accomodation owner.
I tried one night and there was no room at the inn, for one! So I was refused, never mind.
On my second attempt one of the waiters recognised me and warmly welcomed me in, a nice start.
I was shown through into the garden and had the choice of three tables, I chose not to be seated beneath the vine, so I was somewhat isolated in the naughty boy table
I started with the sautéed mussels and clams, which were great, especially the liquor. I saw that off and mopped the residue with bread.
I had never previously had the sepie with ink. I found the pasta to he Al dente and the sauce to be sticky. The cuttlefish had a nice meaty texture. I enjoyed it.
Because I had loads of food I just went for the mixed tried fish, no salad nothing.
It was an excellent plate of food, but I did find a little strange that they left the armour on the gamberetti and then deep fried it. The first mouthful was like eating a helping of Wilkinson swords. I mentioned to the waiter and he commented "yeah they can't get enough round here like that." Fair enough.
I finished with a corretto with Cognac, I'm getting a taste for them.
Drinks were fizzy water and a half litre of quaffable house white.
I went to settle up and was offered a grappa. My waiter informed his mate, no get the good stuff, which he did. So I had a drop of good stuff chatting about travel and cricket and this and that.
Great place, great food and the...
Read moreRestaurant seems to be good until my wife’s Plate arrives.
It was stinky. Impossible to eat . A seafood spaghetti is pretty normal to eat in Venice , and we ate many times in several different restaurants
This one at palazzina was ‘uneatable’. Taste and smell totally terrible, what can easily happen when you unlucky find a bad shell or shrimp.
Usually when it happens you tell the waiter and they change the plate or just cancel it ( as it was not touched) . In this restaurant is not like this .
If it happens to you, You will have a crazy experience facing the owner of the restaurant , a strong beard rude man, coming to your table , furious , with the stinky seafood plate in the hand , stops in front of your wife and daughter, throw the plate in your table and says very loud in a “Italian ” English: this is a good food. Good quality. Not bed smell… . With his hands get a shell from the putrid , stink plate and eat the seafood … and says again… it is good … it’s fresh…
He was absolutely mad about our complaints… he gets crazy and really rude. Telling bed words in Italian , leave our table , get a bottle of wine and Came to a table he was seated and keep drinking more .
We ask the check in the same minute as we felt threatening. They charged the full account . Didn’t remove the plate that wasn’t even touched .
Never bring your family to a place where the owner is a rude host.
This was the worst experiences in my 17 days...
