Ambiance great! Pizza great! Service...needs a lot of work. Our large party was greeted at the door by a unsmiling server type and proceeded to lead us to our table. The man behind the bar seemed more accustomed to customer service as he smiled and acknowledged our arrival. Did not seem that eye contact alone would hail a server to take our order so we waived at the barman for this. (the initial greeter/server was nowhere to be seen) He took our drink and food order efficiently and brought us wine glasses for the bottle that we ordered. Appetizers arrived soon thereafter and our bottle was left on our table to help ourselves. We asked for a second different wine and had to ask for the barman to change our glasses. Both bottles weren't particularly expensive or rare but being completely different varietals typically warrant such a change in my opinion. The previously friendly barman was a touch irritated by our request but more for the reason of the younger server disappearing and neglecting his duties. Our fresh, hot pizzas were brought to our table by a smiling pizza Meister that brought smiles to our...
Read moreAfter having had the privilege of trying Da Michele's pizza at its birthplace in Naples, Italy, I was more than thrilled to discover they had a location in Japan/Fukuoka when I searched for "pizza Fukuoka"! While the atmosphere and menu had their own unique flair compared to its Italian counterparts, the pizza itself was a delight, as expected.
I opted for the "double" margherita, and at around 2400 yen, it offered incredible value. It arrived perfectly cooked in less than 10 minutes, pre-sliced for convenience. The waiter was very attentive, great service.
The restaurant was quite lively, to say the least, at around 20:30, with quite a few large groups chatting loudly. It seems like the perfect spot for gatherings over delectable Italian food and wine, but not what one might consider a...
Read moreI feel very bad leaving a restaurant of this caliber and name a bad review. The original in Naples is obviously legendary. Here, they denied us a table as Americans despite having a table outside for the entire hour we were here. They must believe that this restaurant was above us or that we were not of the quality or kind expected here. They said reserved but we could see the table open. I have been in Japan for two weeks, never was I offended nor did I have a bad experience at a restaurant until I came here. I would maybe expect some additional rudeness if this was traditional Japanese restaurant but this is an Italian restaurant from Naples, how can you serve foreign food and yet be rude...
