Overpriced and overrated sushiyas abound everywhere, and Fukuoka is no exception. I was unwilling to pay 40,000 JPY and above for a sushi omakase experience. But at Yoshitomi Sushi, you can feed two persons for that price (with change to spare).
Yoshitomi Sushi is helmed by the dedicated Tomoko-san, and well-supported by her partner-in-crime Kei-san.
Dining here is a relaxed yet intimate experience, and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Witnessing a female sushi chef in action was a welcome change. Tomoko-san lends a feminine touch to her craft, while Kei-san provides a range of sakes to accompany the sushi. And for non-Japanese speakers, worry not. Kei-san is fluent in English as well.
Understandably, we were discouraged from taking pictures of the food. No matter. We were there to feed our stomachs, not the camera.
Would I make a return visit to Yoshitomi Sushi next time I'm in Fukuoka? In a heartbeat.
Btw, reservations are...
Read moreThis is the state of art of sushi. I would have given 5 stars if they did not run of Yebisu beer after the first round. Not a fan of Asahi beer. They have only one type of cold sake. It is a good local sake. The sushi were truly amazing. I am a fairly big eater. I had to find an arrangement over the phone to order an extra after the dinner course. The owner did not honor our arrangement, but never mind. That was not cheap. I will go again if I return to Fukuoka. Don't be late. They is one service on the evening and they are very punctual, do not come late. They owner does not allow customers to take photos. Be mindful and ask before taking shots. The payment...
Read moreWow, the best sushi I’ve eaten. Watanabe-san was our chef for the evening, and she was phenomenal — truly remarkable, with great attention to detail, every dish was in a league of its own. The owner, Kataoka-san, was incredibly friendly: fluent in English, very welcoming, and told us a lot about the storied history of the place. Omakase-style sushi restaurant with just six bar seats and a four-seat table. Reservations are required, but my friend and I got insanely lucky without one. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth every...
