Umenohana Kagoshimaten — Restaurant in Kagoshima

A wonderful place to try traditional Japanese food with a view of Mt Sakurajima. This restaurant is on the 15 floor of the building. You can get wonderful views of Mt. Sakurajima while enjoying your meal. They serve a number is different types of dishes, but we had a multi dish course of tofu related dishes. Although it felt different as there were only a few fish/shrimp related dishes and was otherwise mostly vegetable based, it was a wonderful meal even for a non-vegetarian. The subtle flavors of the soups, drinks and dishes provided reflected a high quality of preparation and a very distinct culinary discipline than what most might have been used to from Japanese restaurants in the West.

Staff speak only Japanese it seems, and did a lot of explaining of the dishes as they came. It would be available you come able to speak Japanese or have someone who can help you translate. You'll be satisfied with the experience here.

This joint totally brightened up the trip during the rainy season of Kagoshima! For starter, it has a stunning view of Mt Sakurajima! The entire menu was based on ecletic and yet superbly mastered interpretations of tofu and dried bean jerky. Every dish was a surprise after surprise! The service was comely and welcoming. We couldn't speak Japanese while the kind old lady couldn't speak English. Nonetheless, the communication was flawless. This place is a hidden pearl...

A very decent and authentic restaurant with excellent view of Sakurajima. Food was yummy and waitresses were very helpful and thoughtful. We were in a hurry but didn't want to cancel with short notice. After I told a waitress, she tried very hard to serve all our food efficiently while another staff offered to go downstairs with us and guide us to the bus stop.
