I went to this place 和総 (Wasou) for dinner upon a "strong recommendation" by several hostel staffs. One of them said he so wished he could have joined me for dinner that night as food there is so damg good but he had to work LOL. After dining there, I understand why..!!

Suited for a solo traveler as well. What a great place! The staff (owner, waitress, cooks) were lovely - helpful and friendly but not in your face. They have a very well-written and comprehensive English menu. I ordered 4 or 5 different shochus on the waitress's recommendation, all great. Had a lot of fun otherwise with others sitting at the bar and a brilliant impromptu koto performance from one of the part-time staff, but this is also the kind of place you can sit and have a drink and not be disturbed. Perfect location, friendly and kind staffs, and delicious foods. They have their own Imo-zochu brewery so it's perfectly reasonable priced!
