HK Tea 香港ティー — Restaurant in Kawagoe

There are a myriad of places in Kawagoe that offer an icy beverage to stave off the heat, but few are able to provide such a refreshing drink, at such a reasonable price, as HK Tea.

HK Tea is nestled away from the main thoroughfare of Koedo, which means that it might be hard to miss, especially if you do not often take the walk from Koedo to Kawagoe Station. Unlike many cafes and spots in Kawagoe, HK Tea opted for a more modern/minimalistic interior. It is almost unassuming in its simplicity, but still retains a level of comfort that makes it the ideal place to catch a break from the bustle of the crowd and the searing heat of the summer. There are seating arrangements for solo guests, couples and even groups. While not a big place, I have never had trouble finding an open table when I've gone on the weekend.

On my first visit, I ordered the Grapefruit Tea and it took only one sip to know that I would become a regular. I was immediately blown away by the perfect amount of bitterness. I know that sounds like a given, seeing as how it is a grapefruit drink, but I cannot tell you the number of times I have had grapefruits drinks that lean more towards the sweet end. The drink was light, refreshing and to top it off, had slices of grapefruit. There was only one downside, and it was the amount of ice. However, at that price and with a flavor that amazing, it did not diminish my enjoyment.

Since then, I have been back several times. The Grapefruit Tea is delicious, but I personally recommend the Grapefruit Smoothie. The iciness of the drink with the bitterness of the grapefruit is the perfect combination for the humid and sticky summer of Japan. I honestly cannot get enough of this drink and at only 490 yen, it is always so tempting to just grab a second seeing that the first one seemingly vanishes as soon as it hits the table.

The service has been friendly and impeccable. It really has helped to make this place one of my favorites to visit every time I am in Kawagoe. Thank you to all the staff for your attention...
