八州亭（まかない処 大正蔵） — Restaurant in Kawagoe

Excellent little shop to try all sorts of sake, shouchu & umeshu. You might even find some special alcohol on some days.

Place is mainly case as they use vending machines to dispense sake in tasting cups, prices vary from 300 yen to 500 yen depending on the type and grade.

There's also a counter which serves drinks other then sake and some interesting snacks like cheese made from sake lees.

Well worth the experience and managed to get some interesting not seen...

I was here for sake tasting after walking around Kawagoe old town. 3 types of sake with accompanying snacks for ¥800 which I thought was quite affordable. The snacks tasted a little odd (salty, pungent, spicy!) but did its job of balancing out the acidity and clean aftertaste of the sake.

The restaurant was spacious, traditional Japanese elements and ambience. No English menu available and sake tasting wasn’t shown to on the menu till I mentioned “sake” to...

古い酒蔵を改装して作られた和食レストランです。広々とした空間で天井も高く、とても開放感があります。高さのある仕切りもなく、レストランのフロア全体が見渡せます。なかなか店員が来ない、気づいてもらえない、といったことはあまり無いと思います。その代わり、見たところ4人席が最小で、1人席や2人席、カウンターは無い模様。1～2人では少々利用しづらい、という印象です。 料理の種類や盛り付けは、いわば典型的な和食レストランの定食そのもので、川越市特産の芋等が使用されていることを除き、特筆すべきところはありません。定食の量は一人分にしては少々多めの印象。そのため、サイドメニューを頼む場合は、種類と数を考慮する必要があります。 本川越駅から徒歩で2～3分程度の立地や、お土産屋が併設されているところも魅力の一つです。川越で食事をする際の候補の一つとして挙げておくといいかもしれません。

The Japanese restaurant has been constructed by refurbishing the old brewery. It has a high ceiling and a large floor, you'll feel a feeling of openness. Almost no partition with height is found. There may be no bad points such as waiting staff getting crowded, or not being able to order. Instead, there are no small number of seats such as single or two seats. There is an impression that it is hard to use with a small number of people. The type and arrangement of dishes are them of a typical Japanese restaurant. Except for the use of special products of Kawagoe city such as potato, there is nothing special to mention. The amount of set meal is rather high. The other attractions of it is that it is located 2 or 3 minutes on foot from Honkawagoe station, and that a souvenir shop is parallel established.
