We were looking for a morning breakfast spot and spotted this that has a breakfast set menu and a curry menu. I was craving for curry so decided that we should give this place a try. The atmosphere was super cozy and welcoming.
We realised after sitting down and being served water that the curry menu was only for lunch. Since we’ve sat down and the owner has served us water, we decided to stay and only order one breakfast set since I am a small eater and my other half doesn’t usually have breakfast. I’m also lactose intolerant so decided to skip on getting the drinks.
The owner moved us from a 2 seater table to a 4 seater table insisting that it will be more comfortable. When we ordered 1 set, she was surprised ( though there wasn’t a signage stating that there needs to be a minimum order per person). Food was ok. It was an english style breakfast with toast, jam, banana, and salad.
Things got really weird for us when we were half way through our breakfast when another couple walked in and the owner quickly ushered us to move whilst eating (we were almost done) back to the 2 seater table to make space for the couple that just walked in. It made things really weird for us and for the couple as they also insisted that they could sit at the 2 seater table. The owner then became overly apologetic which was also uncomfortable for us.
From my perspective, I can completely understand that she wants to make space for those who would order more but it was really awkward and unpleasant for us because she was the one who insisted we moved in the first place and now moving us back whilst we were eating. I really think when it comes to basic restaurant etiquette, this place scored low on my list. She could have waited for us to be done and then move the couple over. We also rushed to finish and asked for the bill but instead of giving us the cheque, she insisted we moved. Overall, it left a very bitter taste...
Read moreCute little breakfast spot close to Arashiyama bamboo forest. We popped in here because it was one of the only spots open early. The owner was very joyful and service oriented. She runs everything by herself, so it takes a little bit of time to get the dishes out if there’s a few groups in the cafe. She spoke English well enough to communicate with us. The food is very simple, I got the morning set with toast. This comes with toast, jam, yogurt, potato salad, salad, half a banana, and a coffee (~1300 yen). It’s nothing that’s going to blow you out of the water, but she takes care of the presentation and it was properly filling without being...
Read moreSmall and cosy store. Went for breakfast and were the first customers. Lady boss was very welcoming and friendly. Since we were unable to speak Japanese, she spoke to us in English and tried her very best! We were able to communicate with her and that was good enough. She handles everything, but her food is still delicious as she makes it with heart and passion for it. Waited a while for the sandwich, so she gave complimentary yogurt and banana. Hot cocoa has no sugar, so it's quite bitter (but for those who like dark chocolate or sugar-free taste, this is good for you). Enjoyable experience here and will...
