The worst yet most expensive food I've had in Kyoto / Japan. Food was so disappointing. We came here due to wanting traditional Kyoto food, seeing positive reviews and good price tag, but this was so expensive and cash only. We spent over ¥6000 each on the Kyoto style menu (Kyokaiseki) without even buying any drinks. The portions were tiny and we left hungry.
There were supposedly 10 courses, served as 7. Descriptions were very vague. Some staff explained what was served, some didn't.
There were some nice courses/elements to the dishes - the appetiser of leek and tofu, the seasonal vegetables, the tempura, the noodles (not sure what course this was). But there were small squids flooded with mustard that was not even possible to eat. The sashimi was okay, better elsewhere. Dessert was so disappointing. For that price tag, we expected them to at least make something for dessert, but we literally got one strawberry and one slice of orange, absolute piss take. But with such a generic menu, I guess they can serve what they like and there's nothing we can do about it. There should have been explanation of this or a picture before we committed to spending that money for nothing. Overall the food was a mix of average and below.
Nice vibe and decor though, traditional style atmosphere and private rooms available or sitting at the front part of the restaurant. The rooms were boiling, but most of the food was served cold. Staff were polite, but I would...
Read moreGreat atmosphere. You can see your food being prepared if you are sitting in the main area and not in a Tatami matted room.
The sake was strong and flavorful. Very yummy. The owner showed me I still had more sake when I thought I was done. The tuna and salmon are the best I’ve had. I had the sashimi set. The mizu soup was incredible. I had no complaints about my food and was surprised by one of the fish in the sashimi set because I had never had it before. I would recommend coming here and was thankful to be able to find somewhere that...
Read moreOrdered 2 Kaiseki sets for dinner, featuring about 9 dishes. Each dish is meticulously prepared by two main chefs in the kitchen, exploiting true flavours from their carefully selected ingredients. The fish selection in sashimi, tempura and grilled dishes are simply outstanding, though do not expect a large portion, this is Kaiseki after all. Worth spending the ¥5000 on each set. Service has been great and friendly, overall a very...
