We couldn’t even get inside the store properly as it was cramped and crowded. A kind group of tourists actually tried to offer us their table, but before we could sit, another group — already seated and served at the counter — suddenly stood up and snatched the table from us. All of this happened right in front of the staff, who did absolutely nothing — no apology, no welcome, nothing.

To make matters worse, the owner was occupying an entire table for interviews during rush hour, while we, as potential customers, were left standing with nowhere to sit. The group that took our table was comfortably accommodated without a second thought, while we were completely ignored.

We ended up leaving. Truly disappointing and unacceptable service. Please educate your staff on how to handle such situations — and maybe consider focusing on your actual customers instead of private meetings...

They have a very small menu and half the options are not even available. Out of 3 dessets they had only one wich was not even homemade. The prices were also too high. 1800¥ for a cup of matcha with milk (wich didn't taste so well) and the dessert they had avaliable (wich they probably got for 50¥). My friends said their 1500¥ toast tasted well but it was also overpriced. We also noticed they heated everything in a microwave and they were really slow, wich I would understand if only 1 person was working there but they were 3 and we waited over 20 minutes with only another family in...

It is not easy to open a coffee shop in Kyoto Japan. Coffee has yet to make an imprint upon the local culture, and anyone trying to introduce this Joy, will face quite a few challenges. That's why I was so pleased that the director of the eight black birds Cafe in Kyoto has succeeded in putting together a very cool vibe and excellently roasted beans, with the coffee being drunk using the percolation drip system. The cheesecake was fantastic, and Shemokava the director will surely turn this new spot into a hub for coffee...
