I found this kind of accommodation rather often in Japan recently. |Compact and it reminds me of rubik cube somehow. ||The wall is very thin and it is not soundproof. It is very noisy because of other guests.|Usually people don't pay attention to the sound when you open/close the doors or lock/unlock the keys. Each time other guests come back or go out, you will have to hear the noise. Therefore, ear plugs are provided. :D|||Main building - Only female accepted |There is only 1 bathroom but it is big (Typical Japanese bathroom) |3 toilets|Smaller Pantry|Washing machine|Relaxing area in front of reception|||Annex|3 bathrooms (One of them is huge)|Kitchen |Public space|Laundry machine||Public space can't be used during cleaning time.||Although Google Map shows the correct location, the entrance is very difficult to spot as the sign / logo is very small.T|he door of the entrance looks like it is locked but just slide the door if it is inside of their business hours. It is not locked. ||If you usually stay in a hostel, you should consider Shizuya hotel, you can keep your privacy even when you choose a dorm. |It is very modern and clean.|I stayed in a single room but shower and toilet are all shared.|||All amenities are provided in the shower space but I found a hair dryer in the room I stayed in, too.|Other than the hair dryer, there are so many things equipped in the room like a small fan, hangers, air cleaner (?). I actually didn't check what they were but I found some small electric devices in the closet. ||Linen is the only amenity you can get.|You can rent bath towel, face towel and toothbrush (all JPY100 each)||You can't eat anything in the room. If you get something to eat, you have to eat it in the public space in the annex/main building. |If it is annex, you can use the kitchen too. |Microwaves, coffee machines, plates, cups, instant miso soup ... they actually have everything.||Public space in front of the reception (Main building) is just chilling out space but eating is allowed.|||Location is pretty good. |I walked from Kyoto JR station as I didn't have a suitcase with me.|If you don't get lost, it should be about 10-15 minutes walking.|Once you get to the hotel, it is still walking distance to Gion. ||There are convenience stores nearby (Family Mart and 7-eleven)||Reception isn't 24 hours. Read moreIt's located in a small alley within Kyoto central. The location was quite nice and convenient. I stayed in the Omoya house, which is female only, it's all built by woods, so a little bit of noise with be amplified pretty easily. They have signs and notice put up to notify the guess to be careful about making noises, however, the lock on the door wasn't designed to be quite, it makes a loud click while locking it, and it's hard to prevent even if you try to lock it slowly. The guests also need to know how to close the door properly so it doesn't sound like their slamming the doors when closing them.||The futon and comforter were great. I had a great rest when staying there. I stayed in the private room, which I think it's quite enough for myself to use, it creates a nice little personal space. I love the fact that they have bathtubs in two of the bathrooms.||Overall, it's still a nice and...
Read moreThe hostel is really one of a kind and it's location is amazing. Within only a twenty minute walk along one street you find yourself in the heart of Kyoto. The combination of modern and traditional design is just beautiful and gives the hostel a peaceful vibe. I stayed for three nights. Check-in and check-out were both super easy. I could even leave my luggage before I checked in and after I checked out and they even brang it to my room for me already before I checked in. Everything was also super clean (rooms, bathroom, shower, lounge) and the hostel was so, so quiet! I stayed at the main house Omoya and had a room on the side of the building that is facing the street. Since the windows do not seem to be very well insulated, the noises of the street can be disturbing sometimes. But I still had a good sleep thanks to ear plugs. I can really recommend choosing this hostel for your...
