Mexican Food Raicho Shrine — Restaurant in Kyoto

Reading the reviews I was thinking this place was going to blow me away with the flavors I’ve been finding across Japan, but with a Mexican perspective. Boy was I wrong.

You need to scan a QR and they won’t take orders. Our QR code was not working along with 3 other tables— waitress eventually came and had to switch them on? After a while it crapped out again.

Food also came in a weird order. One person got her tacos, then we got like 8 tortilla chips for our guacamole, then we got the chicken and finally my tacos. By the time everything came out save for the chicken it was cold.

They missed our beverage order.

Everything including their heavily marketed chicken taste like nothing. I understand the Japanese palette appreciates more muted and simpler flavors but everything tasted like nothing, no salt no sour no umami no spice, nothing.

Chicken had to be sent back, was still bloody raw inside. The tortillas were cold by the time the chicken came back. $4 guacamole had eight chips, two per person. They weren’t clear that there was a 300yen per person charge to sit at a table. The table charge was for the atmosphere of dried plants nailed to the ceiling. My daughter saw a big spider. A small glass of tap water, half full, was 180yen. They were the first restaurant in Japan that charged for tap water! You can get better Mexican food at Taco Bell. Good vibes were unfortunately dashed by very strangely small portions for price, and only decent taste. The salsa they give with the tacos looks like what would be left after you finish a proper serving a salsa. It’s not to say that it’s expensive, it is just much too expensive for what it is. I also ordered 3 tacos but got only 2, an omission I decided was fine after we tried the tacos—did not want anyone to feel bad over 2 bites of food.
