My family and I stumbled upon this lovely place on our first night in Kyoto. I am not kidding when I say Every Single Dish we ordered was incredibly delicious, so delicious that we went back again the next day after dinner and had a whole meal as if we hadn’t eaten prior. Highlights: Tako sashimi in ponzu (we ordered 4 times), Toro sashimi, grilled shiitake, sirloin steak, fried oyster, gyoza (the best, ordered twice in a row), grilled Buri neck (most tender and juicy), yummy cucumber (just as its namesake, ordered 4+ times), grilled rice ball, and ramen. Each dish had such deep flavours, clean, fresh, and balanced in sweetness, salt, tart and charred. There were still so many items on the menu we hadn’t tried yet and we are sad to have to leave Kyoto so soon!
Services were excellent. Chihareu and Seiiko were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, a place to meet new friends while enjoying a drink with good food. Our experience here was so wonderful that we will dearly miss this place!

Read moreToday, we visited 古民家居酒屋。All seats were taken, full house. Please remember to make reservations before visiting as this lovely restaurant is always fully seated. We came specifically for the Chef's Selection Course." Indeed, we were elated with the food, restaurant cheery atmosphere, chef & team friendliness. There is a lovely & quiet doggy 🐕 at the entrance. This adds to the cuteness of this restaurant. You get to select the drink, liquor, or non liquor, solely up to your preference. Just let the chef know your preference, certain be arranged for your enjoyment of the night. Chef has surprised us with each of us a fish with a rice ball roasted. In addition, we ordered a sirloin steak, which is super soft & tender. Have a go, we enjoyed very bit of the food, environment & service. We hope you too enjoy what this wonderful...
Read moreThis was such a nice little find! Small shop, only 7 or 8 seats at a counter, but that made for a nice, intimate experience with fellow guests. My husband and I stopped here for dinner on our first night in Kyoto, and were joined by a lovely Italian couple and a local who happened to also be an English teacher. The conversation between guests and the two individuals running the shop was just wonderful!
On to the food: the food was FANTASTIC! We ordered Obanzai, a traditional Kyoto vegetable dish, and the sashimi mixed platter. The veggie dish was like nothing I'd ever had and was phenomenal, especially the Konyaki noodles with it. The sashimi was super fresh and tender. And the Yuzu wine is something you don't want to miss.
The trip just started but I have a feeling this will be one of the highlights of our...
