After having such wonderful experiences throughout Japan - in Tokyo, Nagoya, and the start of our Kyoto trip - this place was unfortunately a real dampener. We came in as a family of seven, excited to enjoy some food and drinks together, but the service left us feeling very uncomfortable.
Two female staff members in particular were anything but welcoming. They served us with a cold, unfriendly attitude, and not once did we receive a smile. What made it worse was seeing them laughing with each other behind the bar while glancing at us, which only added to how unwelcome we felt.
We had originally planned to eat and spend a couple of hours there, but instead we rushed through our drinks just to leave. We’re a polite family and didn’t understand why we were treated this way, especially after being met with such warmth everywhere else in Japan.
Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this spot - at least not for British tourists. No surprise that it was empty and other places were buzzing!

Read moreFirst of all I take issue with the staff being rude as stated on some reviews. The bar was filled with foreigners in the main, me being one of them. The lone bartender was welcoming and attempted to engage in English with all the parties that entered. Their method of pouring beer is a slow one which may be the cause of some who are in a rush to get a bit peeved. I cannot say for certain but the photo on another post that highlighted a rude member of staff looks like the young lady who was serving me. She was delightful, friendly, helpful assisting with the ordering process and attempted to speak English to me at all times. Her name was Sana and she deserves a 10 out of 10. The beer is pretty good all round, I have tried them all on a couple of visits and is no more expensive than most Japanese establishments. The bar food is very tasty even if the portions are small. All in all a great place to splash the cash while...
