If you came to Japan to eat (which I'm telling you, trust me, is not a stupid reason to pay for the flight out there) you gotta try and get a reservation here. Tourists beware though, because I was a special case. I speak some Japanese and went with a Japanese friend of mine, who made the reservation and whom actually knew the chef, Hayashi-san. I say that because I asked some questions about the food (because I like to document all the great food I eat in Kyoto) in my broken Japanese and before Hayashi-san realized he knew my friend, he was a bit spikey and grumpy with me because I was asking questions that I sometimes didn't understand the answers to. With the very famous and high class resteraunts like this (and I'm not kidding, this place is the real deal) you might find this kind of disdain from the chefs who seem to find it fashionable to be grumpy nowadays, but I hope you'll still try to go.
