Read moreA great restaurant if you want to go for a quick meal. You order at the machine and there is an English menu. After you paid (by cash or card), just sit down and hand your tickets over to a staff member.
I had the grilled mackerel menu with an extra side salad and extra potato crocket. For rice you can choose plain white rice or barley riceand I went for the barley rice. The dish also comes with a miso soup and a small side of soft tofu. The mackerel was so juicy and flavorful. It had a crispy skin and comes with a slice of lemon and some grated radish. The radiah will cut through the fattyness of the fish. The salad was light and fresh with yuzu-sesamy dressing. Make sure to order ine to get your veggie intake in for the meal. The potato crocket was crispy and had good flavor. If you want, there is unlimited refill on white rice.

The total costs were just ¥ 1,980 including a glass of lemon sour drink. The dishes taste good and portion are generous. Yayoi Ken is also available overseas, including in Australia (our home) so we are glad to be able to try their dishes in Kyoto.
