I was in Osaka, Japan for a few days recently and went to Dancing Crab in Umeda to celebrate a birthday. I’ve been there in the past a few times, so I knew what to expect; a fun, entertaining experience with some great food and great servers. They delivered! Dancing Crab is an American style Cajun seafood boil restaurant that pretty accurately copies our typical everyday backyard seafood boil, but done with some great twist. To start you can order your set meals when you made your online reservation or you’ll do so with your server at the restaurant. There are a couple different package options available and you can order side dishes. Our package included a lot of crab, a good amount of shrimp, potatoes, sausages. It also came with a salad and some Cajun fries. We ordered some crab cakes and some nonalcoholic drinks (although there seems to be a crazy amount of interesting alcohol drinks and all kind of drink package options). What I like is that the servers make everything so much fun; even bringing out your food brings lots of smiles and laughter. Photo ops abound with you wearing your little red ‘kani-kani’ crab hat! You eat with your hands off the table on food grade mats. It’s all a delicious mess; just the way it should be! But then the lights go down and the music pumps up and all the servers do a dance routine. It’s really great because everyone gets into it. It’s a real party atmosphere. Loved it! If it’s a birthday occasion like it was for us, you’ll get a lot of special attention.
Overall I really love this place. The portions and makeup of the seafood combos has reduced quite a bit over time, but the food is still great (I’m really into their crab cakes), and the atmosphere is second to none. If you like having fun and engaging with the servers and enjoy music and dancing, you’ll love this place, I promise you. Highly recommended. I hope this...
Read moreTonight was the worst service I ever received at dancing crab. I’ve been to both Tokyo and Osaka locations multiple times and enjoyed the atmosphere. However Taku and Sam were so rude when I tried to explain how my lobster meat was over cooked and mushy making it inedible. They assumed, instead of confirming that I was dissatisfied with the size of the lobster and the price vs listening or inquiring deeper. It was insulting to insinuate I couldn’t pay for something I obviously just ordered. I asked for the manager and Sam said there was no manager and proceeded to argue with me about my dissatisfaction. Horrible experience
I had to call a friend to translate after I found a manager myself. Which eventually led to them understanding my concern and removing the cost for the...
Read moreA cool experience, but not somewhere I would go very often. The food is good but expensive, but they way they serve it right on the table (no plates or utensils) is pretty unique and cool, but very hard and messy to eat. The servers do a crazy dance every once in a while to very loud music which might be cool or annoying, depending on why you are there. Young people would love it, but I could see some older people and couples visibly annoyed by all the crazy noise and dancing. Overall, it's a cool place to bring friends from overseas to, to show them something kind of different and crazy, but otherwise I probably wouldn't go there. Kind of theme park vibe. I had fun, but...
