Gokai Tachizushi Nambanankaidori — Restaurant in Osaka

Extremely disappointed. Came here because my friend had a good experience and I read good reviews. We were seated on the second floor. We ordered 4 orders of 'uni cornucopia' along with a tuna bowl and assorted nigiri set and a side of plain rice. When the food arrived, we thought it looked good, but portion size was small. I read a lot of reviews that rave about the generous slices of fish on the nigiri, but I found the pieces small, akin to the size of what you'd find at US buffets (where they make nigiri pieces small to reduce food waste.) The amount of uni on my uni cornucopia was also small. The uni and nigiri tasted good. That's the only positive. Now the negative. My daughters tuna bowl had cucumber in it and the cucumber part was absolutely rancid. 3 of us from the group tried it to confirm and it has definitely gone bad 👎. The side of rice we ordered never came during the meal, despite asking for it more than once during the meal. The rice was finally brought to us at the end of the meal when we were done eating. We went downstairs to pay and our group saw what everyone downstairs was served. Their nigri pieces were huge! Their nigiri pieces were at least 2-3 bites each. Our nigiri were very small, one bite each at best. We also watched them make uni cornucopia for other customers and saw them piling on the uni. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Our nigiri size was less than half what others were served and our uni amount was also shorted. Also we were served rotten food. I'm not sure if it's because we sat upstairs or because we were foreigners. We were very respectful and behaved appropriately, so I'm really not sure what the issue was. I didn't complain or bring it to their attention because of the language barrier. But just be warned. We are never going back again. Guess they...

Gokai Tachizushi is a casual, great-value sushi spot in the Namba area that’s easy to find and even easier to love. Inside feels like a lively tavern: beer posters on the walls, quick service, and a steady buzz without being overwhelming. Prices are fair for the quality, portions are generous, and it’s the kind of place you can pop into for lunch or a late bite.

We started with toro maki, where thick cubes of fatty tuna were wrapped in rice and crisp nori. A six-piece nigiri set followed: lean tuna, buttery amberjack, a translucent white fish (likely flounder), a silver-skinned fish, sweet omelette, and two “battleship” pieces. One was piled with bright salmon roe; the other was crowned with a heaping scoop of sea urchin. The highlight of the meal was that overflowing uni-and-ikura gunkan: creamy, sweet sea urchin spilling over, a cascade of briny roe, a touch of wasabi, and pickled ginger between bites. Luxurious flavour, sensible price.

Service was friendly and fast, dishes landed within minutes, and everything tasted fresh. Between the convenient location, lively atmosphere, and hearty portions, this was one of our favourite sushi meals in Osaka. If you’re after quality fish without a long wait or a high bill, Gokai Tachizushi delivers. We’ll be back on our next trip.

foreigners are to sit at 2nd floor. once food and drinks order is taken, you can hardly find service staff on the 2nd floor. least to mention about ordering additional food and drinks. (great, i saved quite a lot of money)

quality of sushi & sashimi served to foreigners are low. very low. seriously they thought foreigners have no idea about what is good quality sushi and sashimi. (absolutely ignorant)

waiter(male staff) has zero level of service. an absolute disgrace to Japanese hospitality. (we were seated at a wall facing counter setup by the door of the kitchen and the toilet on the 2nd floor. despite we had ordered quite a fair amount of food and alcoholic drinks. our request to move to a proper table so that we can enjoy the food properly, was declined. waiter claimed that the few empty tables were reserved. those empty tables remained empty till we left. 🤣 since we were not welcomed, we quickly finished our meal and left. 😎 ...
