We went to this Japanese restaurant with the promise of catching our own fish. As we walked into the place, we thought, "Hey, this looks nice!" Little did we know, it was a tourist trap of epic proportions. They charge you a fee per person just to fish, which is like paying to do their job for them. And if that wasn't enough, they have the audacity to demand an 800 yen appetizer that's about as necessary as a snorkel in a desert.
Let's talk about the prices. They're about as friendly as a shark with a toothache. Five thousand yen for one seabream? I could buy a small yacht for that price. And don't get me started on the service. The waiters and staff seem to have perfected the art of looking miserable, especially when they see a Westerner walking in. It's like they have a secret competition for who can provide the worst service possible. Congratulations, guys, you win. Worst service I had in Japan on my 3 week trip.
Oh, and did I mention that communication is about as smooth as trying to swim with concrete flippers? I tried to ask for help because I couldn't figure out how to order through the QR code they provided (pretty hard if your restaurant has no customer wifi), and three times a waiter gave me a dismissive shrug, as if I was speaking a foreign language... oh wait, I was. Apparently, they missed the memo that English exists.
After enduring the frustration of catching and eating one fish, I couldn't take it anymore. I left this place and sought refuge in a nearby McDonald's. And let me tell you, that greasy haven felt like a five-star restaurant compared to this sorry excuse for a dining experience.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a fun fishing attraction, this place might be fun. But if you're actually interested in enjoying a good meal, I suggest you to go somewhere else. Oh, and a little note for the staff: if you happen to read this, please enroll in a 101 course in politeness. It might just prevent future customers from drowning in disappointment.
Ps: Shinsekai and the area around Shin-Imamiya are one shady looking neigbourhood with weird people that look as if they might try to rob you, the restaurant and their staff reflect...
Read moreThe service is non-existence and horrendous, no idea how that is possible 🥰 As tourists, we understand that there will be communication barrier, which was why we tried to use google translate from the start(via voice or text) to clarify how everything works before stepping in. Deadass the entrance staff simply zoned out and gave us nothing✨
There was zero effort in attempts to communicate or respond to whatever we were asking- again, we literally showed them a google translation in japanese of what we were asking… absolutely clueless as to why he could or did not bother respond at all.
Sadly my partner was too excited and blinded by the tourist trap gimmick of fishing your own fish and eating it (im not tho ❤️), so we ended up heading in. Oh my god was there absolutely no service at all after they tell you where your assigned table is at.
We just sat down and was like ?? How?? Fish?? Where?? Huge thank you to absolutely no information, again, none of the staff bother to help you if you are looking lost and confused. If you try communicating with them as a tourist its like they switch off immediately so it genuinuely was the worst service we had encountered.
Fast forward we went solo mode and tried to catch dem fishies🎣🐟… it was horrible… the fishes KNOW you’re trying to eat them so its literally impossible to catch with the rod, everyone was struggling and got bored. The string is very very short and you will see many people bending over crazy and uncomfortable positions just to put their rod into the water. Eventually, you will simply find a low level corner and use the net to scoop them out unless you wish to stay there forever—- which defeats the “fishing” concept via a rod.
Food taste wise, worse than normal. Fish was very bland on its own. As mentioned by many other reviews, take note that price they show you does not include tax and mandatory appetitsers per pax. We did not even touch them and it was ridiculous as sweets were part of...
Read moreHuge tourist trap. The catch your own fish is over priced gimmick and horrifying. They are trapped in small containers don’t really swim around. Also they will sit there bullshit you about the boats on the inside for seating. They say you have to have bigger party, then you point out the tables with only 2 people then they say it’s too busy but will only be a few people on it. Then say you have to reserve it but then weekends they open all the boats til 10pm for anyone and say it’s too busy then when you look there only 5 people on the boats out of 20 tables lol. They don’t want to seat you there.
They will also charge you 500 yen table charge just to sit there with a small vegetable appetizer you can eat in one bite. The fish ontop of that very low quality not fresh. Stuck in the freezer til use. So brought out partially frozen or freezer burned. Food doesn’t take all that good. Unpleasant smells even for a sushi place some areas smells rotted. Ice is dirty so drinks got floating particles in it and pretty sure my gf got food poisoning. Few hours after eating there she hasn’t been able to stop vomiting and shitting. Probably going to have to take her to a clinic tomorrow morning if it gets any worse. Avoid this place at all costs. Go to Kura sushi across the street. Yes it’s a chain but atleast it’s reliable and fresh you know what you are paying for. No bs cover charge.
Last thing some of the workers are nice or polite but a lot of them look miserable like they hate their lives or afraid of something. Kinda feel bad for them.
Regardless had over priced sashimi....
