Tried Newbang Burger near Umeda — overall a decent experience with some unique twists.
The staff were super friendly and welcoming, in true Japanese style. They greeted with smiles and even recommended the set menu (though I originally just wanted a single burger). Service was great.
I ordered the Shanghai Burger. The flame-grilled Wagyu patty didn’t quite deliver on flavor — I expected that smoky grilled taste, but it was pretty mild. Also, it wasn’t very juicy, so it didn’t stand out as Wagyu to me.
The toppings were unusual: mayo-based sauce, crunchy veggies, and potato inside the burger. Different, yes, but having potato inside felt a bit off, especially with fries on the side.
The bun was a highlight — super crispy on the outside, almost fried. That was a big plus. But the bun itself was a bit too thick for my taste, which threw off the balance.
Atmosphere was chill with some comic figures around. I also noticed some staff speaking Chinese — likely not local, but service was still excellent.
In summary: Unique burger, great service, crispy bun was impressive — but the patty and overall balance could use...
Read moreFound this place a bit by good luck and after six brilliant days of eating all things Japanese, I thought a burger sounded amazing. And it was. I opted for the Smashburger version of the bacon cheeseburger with thin cut fries that were salty and crispy and perfect. Saw another table get the spicy chicken sammie and they were chewing and smiling when I left.
For my bacon purists, I’m not doing anything to the stars on the review, but NewBang’s interpretation of bacon is a bit more like thinly-sliced Canadian bacon heated up on the flat top. It worked on the burger, but it was not the kind of crisp and thick bacon I associate with an...
Read moreOn a recent trip to Japan (last month), we stumbled across this little restaurant whilst we were trying to find somewhere to eat. We we're so glad that we found this place, that we went back a second time before we left.
The burger patties had so much flavour and the burgers were well designed and presented. The sides were excellent and the karaage was some of the best I had.
The restaurant itself was clean and tidy & well maintained. We sat upstairs as there were 4 of us in the party and downstairs only had space for smaller tables. Unfortunately we we're the only ones upstairs so it didn't feel like there was too much atmosphere but it was nice to have the space to ourselves.
Would highly recommend...
