I can’t remember the name of the young man who checked me in, but he had a Korean name. He was the only one at the counter at the time of my arrival and he had to manage the different guests in line. Kudos to him for managing the queue. He did it very well. He had a cheerful, jovial disposition and a warm smile. Right off the bat, I felt so welcomed upon check in.
The staff asked me if I was comfortable with a twin bed instead of a king. I was pleased to find out that I could be given an early check in if I didn’t mind twin beds. As a solo traveler, I wasn’t picky about the bed types. My Platinum Elite membership as also noticed and recognised by the gentleman at check in.
Full payment was done upon check in. There is no minibar, so no deposit needed. Everything was easily settled upon arrival. Room was excellent. Small, but again, as a solo traveler, it had everything I needed! By the way I traveled with TWO luggage, one of it is a LARGE 81cm luggage. But i had no issues. The luggage was smugly tucked in well below the wall mounted shelf by the doorway. No obstruction. I also have a cabin sized luggage. I placed it on the provided foldable luggage rack in the room. Again, NO OBSTRUCTIONS in the doorway. I could easily walk in and out. There’s also a little cozy small single seat couch attached to the wall by the window and a small desk. I was hungry at night and got some food and the seating area provided ample space for me to enjoy my meal in the room. I was very impressed by the way everything was set up to allow travelers to have all that they need, without any setbacks or inconveniences. Very well planned.
The shower looked very complex at first glance but it’s easy to work it once you try it. The rain shower had massage jets which were perfect. It was winter when I stayed. So a nice steamy shower was perfect to help me relax. Enjoyed it everytime. In fact I was always reluctant to get out of the shower during my stay, haha. I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the room. I have been to more luxurious brands of hotels but with rooms that have some faults here and there such as mouldy sink caulking/silicon, or creaky wardrobes, stained mirrors, etc. My room here was SPOTLESS. And, you can tell it was very WELL MAINTAINED! They had international sockets in the room so don’t worry about adapters. Also, USB ports were available in the sockets. Love it.
Subway station was a 5 minute walk away. If you need the elevator then you might have to walk a little further down as the nearest entrance was by stairs only.
The breakfast staff were all absolute champs! I came 1 hour before closing time but there was still a long queue. The staff got everyone tables as quickly as possible! I was seated about 15-20 minutes later. Still with 45 minutes to eat which was more than enough. Honestly I think the selections were more than adequate for a free breakfast which you will always get when you stay at Holiday Inn Express.
One of the floors has self service washing machines / dryers, vending machines, Microwaves, ice machines and a well insulated smoking room.
Overall I’m very impressed with the hotel and although I’ve stayed in larger and more premium hotels in this area, I actually very much enjoyed this hotel the most. Excellent value, and will recommend...
Read moreThis hotel was great as it was within walking distance to a shopping arcade which had a lot of food and various restaurants and is also within walking distance to many luxury shopping brands and to the Dotonbori area. The room was large and comfortable, it was also clean. The room did not have a bath tub but it has an advanced shower. The room did have an interesting issue in that the ceiling looked like it had water damage that had been dried up, it seemed like the water sprinklers had went off in the past or something and they repair the ceiling but didn't bother painting over it. It didn't seem to be leaking and so we didn't think too much of it other than being an eyesore.
The hotel is good if you are walking or using a taxi, when I had booked it, I thought it would be close to an accessible train station from looking at the maps but unfortunately the closest train station is a slight walk away but the main issue is the entrance to the station requires you to go up and down 4 flights of stairs and then walk quite a bit to reach the actual train platform and so I wouldn't recommend the location of this hotel if you are traveling with someone who has issues walking. We were not able to locate a close subway station which has an elevator..
The hotel was affordable and I liked that there was a water bottle filling station near the elevators on each floor so that we didn't have to go buy water for each day. The breakfast was great, they actually rotated the choices of food every day that we stayed there so it was great to have a variety of food to try out different foods. The check in was OK but we had to wait in the lobby for some time after checking in because the room wasn't ready yet.
The elevators are super slow, much slower than the elevators of the other hotels that I have visited, it sometimes can take over 5 minutes to come during times when it is busy which kind of sucked especially if you wanted to go microwave something or get ice as those amenities are only on 1 floor, I wish there was a microwave on each floor.
All in all, I would probably stay in this hotel again due to the nice room, location and included breakfast, but if I am traveling with family it might be tougher since it's quite hard to get to the train station when compared to other hotels that I have stayed at in Japan even though I tried to book a hotel close to...
Read moreCame with my fiancée in November 2024. Stayed about 4 nights, cost 77,800 YEN or roughly $521.31. Pleasantly surprised by this hotel as it felt the most modern out of all of the hotels we've stayed at in Japan during our trip. Helped that I was a platinum or diamond IHG member so we got a room upgrade (just to a higher floor) and some drink tickets.
The room came with a queen sized bed and your normal toiletries. You enter the room to a small entryway, bathroom on the right, and your main bedroom at the end of the hallway. Spacious enough to lay out your luggage and had plenty of outlets. To me, it felt like staying at a luxury western-ized hotel which reminded me of home.
We arrived before check in time and they allowed us to store our luggage. You can also ship out your luggage directly from here to your next location which is a big plus. Definitely ask the front desk the estimated delivery date though so you can plan when you need to actually ship it or risk not getting your belongings in time.
Morning breakfast gets crowded pretty quick with guests. Arrive early if you want a seat or you'll have to wait in line. Usually, is only about a 10-15 minute wait though so not the worst. You can also let them know you are just grabbing an item to-go and you can get a small pastry bag/coffee.
Laundry room onsite with maybe 3-4 washer/dryer combo machines. These seem to be always in use so you'll have to go at random times early in the morning or late at night if you want to do laundry. Be prepared to spend at least 1-2 hours doing it though because the dryers in Japan take a long time to actually dry your clothes.
I vaguely remember there was only 1 elevator on the ground floor that takes you up to the Holiday Inn check in, then 3 elevators that go to the room once you are on the Holiday Inn floor. You can get stuck waiting in a line if all elevators are in use which is the only negative and you are trying to leave.
Location wise, it's pretty central in Osaka. About a 20 minute walk to Dontonbori and 5-10 minutes to a train station entrance. Expect to walk or use rideshare/taxi if you prefer. Not sure if it's common, but the nights we stayed here there would often be car meets happening outside on the street. Interesting for those into car culture, but you can also hear them up in your rooms. Still very safe feeling in this...
