Tonkatsu GENYA — Restaurant in Osaka

Came here in March 2025. Found this place just looking through Google Maps as it was rated 4.7. I was very impressed!

Food was absolutely amazing...best tonkatsu I've had...probably in my life. The pork is super tender and it's nice and thick and juicy. There's multiple sauces/dips you can use including salt, mustard, tonkatsu sauce and soy sauce. You can get 1 free refill of the cabbage, miso soup and rice.

The pork is breaded and fried on order and not just sitting around so it's nice and fresh.

Nice and close to Hotel Brighton so great for tourists. They have an English menu as well. The owners wife was super friendly and accommodating as we had a stroller and she speaks enough English. She provided colouring book with crayons and did some origami with us.

Highly recommend it. I would go with the larger size if you're hungry. We ordered one of the 130g and one of the 180g and they both kinda look the same size. I could have probably eaten another piece of tonkatsu it...

First day in Osaka and was looking for a restaurant close to my hotel. Ended up with this hole in the wall tonkatsu restaurant. I honestly am not a fan of tonkatsu but I don’t want to stress out looking for a place to eat with a family of six. To rate this restaurant as excellent will be a dishonor to the chef and his friendly staff. I didn’t even realize that there are different kinds of pork. The tonkatsu is the best I’ve ever tasted, hands down. The pork is more tender than chicken meat. The chef, although doesn’t speak English, made sure that my kids are comfortable. He even ask my kids, using google translate, if they want extra rice. He adjusted the ac when he saw my daughter cold. The homemade sauce is phenomenal. The family is so happy, they requested to come back for another meal. The kids complimented the chef before we left and yes, using Google...

Found this Tonkatsu restaurant nearby my hotel. Highly rated by other reviewers so wanted to give it a try. It offers typical Tonkatsu set but allow you to choose pork from different regions and portion which is very nice. Chose 岩手縣 pork since it is still available and said to be more tender with good portion of fat. Cutlet tasted amazing. Juicy, lean portion is chewy while the fat portion melt in your mouth. It went perfectly with all kinds of dipping, simple salt, mustard and soil sauces, and tonkatsu special sauce. They have English menu upon request and will explain with simple English. Very friendly to English speaking customers. The decor of the shop is also special. Owner happily shared his personally figurine collection....
