When we arrived at Yellow Ape there looked like there was 4 seats on the 1st floor and more seating on the 2nd floor but were told that we couldn't go upstairs to sit but had to squeeze the 4 of us in the standing area between the bar and the front window. There were 2 local ladies sitting in the area of 4 on the first floor and we assumed that the 2nd floor was full, so we made the best of the tight standing area. Not long after we ordered a group of 5 locals walked in acknowledged the staff and went upstairs to the area we weren't allowed to go to. We thought that maybe they had reserved the area that's why we weren't allowed to go upstairs. The 2 locals downstairs left and my wife and our 2 friends moved into 3 of the 4 seats available, I didn't bother to move. A few minutes passed and a couple of locals came in and the bartender asked my friend took move so they can sit down. At this point we felt so unwelcome. Not only were we not allowed to look upstairs for a table for 4 but we were asked to make room for locals by giving up our seats. NOT TOURIST FRIENDLY at all!! My wife felt that the whole time the waitress was looking down at us. I usually would never bother to write a bad review but this experience was something I usually don't expect. That's too bad because the beer was great the fried chicken was excellent. Too bad the staff treat tourists like...
Read moreWhat a fantastic place. My wife and I had our hearts set on another location that ended up being closed and just wandered into the Yellow Ape.
I loved the huge and worldwide selection of beer and personally had some from Japan and New Zealand and they were great. The restaurant had English menu's and the bar tender spoke English well.
Food was excellent. I had two very small (size of the palm of your hand) pizzas that were awesome.... especially for Japan. We did a sausage platter and smoked pork loin that was great but not 5/5 stars great.
The atmosphere was very cozy but that also means mostly just standing room... which is fine for the ambiance.
Overall I give it 4/5 stars which is to say that I HIGHLY recommend it. If you are in Osaka make sure that you come to the Yellow Ape.... Just make sure that you have a...
Read moreFantastic beer bar, beer was great, had the Pirsner and the IPA Ronin, both were very tasty drops. However, the highlight was the service, Mayu was very personable, and being her first night was very welcoming. She also helped us out with tourist spots, restaurants and joined us for a beer, all the while doing her job well. Again, very impressed considering this was her first night. Thank you Mayu. I would highly recommend visiting here, the beer was great and the vibe was welcoming. Apart from the standing bar downstairs there are tables and chairs upstairs. Great little place with plenty to chose from. Although we are only here for two nights I suspect, with so many other choices, we will be back...
