I visited 正宗川菜 川外川 recently and was very impressed with the food and overall experience. This restaurant specializes in authentic Sichuan cuisine, and you can really taste the bold flavors and spices that make this style of cooking so unique.
The dishes are full of rich flavors, lots of chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, and savory sauces that bring out that famous “numbing and spicy” taste. I especially recommend the chicken hot dishes with plenty of chili peppers, which are both flavorful and addictive without being overwhelmingly spicy. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable (most dishes are around ¥1,000 or less), making it a great option for students or anyone looking for tasty food at a good value.
The restaurant is located near Hongo-Sanchome Station, so it’s very easy to access. The inside is simple but clean, and the service was friendly and efficient. Even though it’s a casual spot, the quality of the food makes it stand out compared to many other Chinese restaurants in Tokyo.
One thing to keep in mind is that they close for a short break in the afternoon (15:00–17:00) and are closed on Sundays. Also, since it’s on the second floor, you’ll need to use the stairs.
Overall, if you enjoy authentic, spicy, and satisfying Sichuan cuisine, this is definitely a place worth visiting. I’ll be coming back to try more...
