My friend and I ( from Chicago) always look for some good live music when we travel. Saturday night we found a place and it was a near sold out venue and the ticket was a bit pricey. Well in our opinions it was an epic flop! We tipped out when they stopped for a break. This experience made us a bit apprehensive about trying another club, but I’m so glad we DID try Body and Soul!!! The cover was reasonable, the staff was super friendly and professional including the owner who we both said reminded us of our grandmother.🥰 On our way out she stopped us to chat and introduced herself. She showed her concern about us having to walk in the rain and made sure we had proper directions to the train we needed. I only had salad so not sure about the food in general. It was a sparse menu, but enough of a selection if you just want to have a bit of food to accompany your drinks. I ordered their Caesar salad which was delicious, but it wasn’t a Cesar salad lol. I WOULD order it again though. Last but not least was the MUSIC, the reason we showed up to this joint in the first place.😄 A great sextet playing straight ahead jazz was ON POINT. We couldn’t understand a word when they spoke to the audience between songs, but that music!!!!! Music is the universal language! The sax 🎷 player came to our table and chatted with us and thanked us twice for coming. I say when in Tokyo definitely...
Read moreWonderful non smoking jazz club with live performances pretty much every night. Went to watch Masashi Usui Tokyo Trio perform. The band had great chemistry among themselves and the audience. It's a small basement space so the atmosphere is very intimate and talking to the friendly musicians was great. Loved the audience participation. It was evident everyone loves jazz!
Had a nice dinner during the show and many soft drinks. The menu has both English and Japanese which was greatly appreciated. I only wish the menu had a selection of mocktails. The waiter said they can make non alcoholic versions of the drinks, but it's hard to imagine what is left of the cocktail if the alcoholic part is just removed. Desserts looked delicious. Going to try one next time!
Remember to do an email reservation for events, and that there is a live music fee in addition to the restaurant and bar services. It seems from the reviews that some tourists don't understand this and get upset about it, although it is written on the website and on a big sign by the door. It's a live concert. Of course one should pay for that too. Especially when they fly out stars from all over the world to perform....
Read moreprobably one of my favourite experiences during my trip this round. THIS is jazz.
went when Park Ave Sextet was playing on a chilly autumn afternoon in november. everyone in the band was fantastic (shoutout to euphonium player Jun Yamaoka, dude nailed the pieces 100%). staff were very friendly and accommodating. had to stay for both sets because the music was so good. (i usually take 1 or 2 clips, but the music was too good that i forgot 🤠)
the atmosphere is warm, the set up is cozy, with the tables surrounding the stage. theres free seating, with tables a little further elevated so you have a good view of the stage either way.
food was alright, ordered fries as a side and a gin and tonic, pretty standard stuff.
love the fact that they have student prices for most performances too. overall 100% would go back if im...
