Our family of 3 stayed here for 2 nights in a twin + sofa bed room for 3ppl. This is the last of our 4 hotel stays on our trip to Japan; all the hotel triple rooms are about the same size of 20 sq meters (~200 sq ft). Shibuya Tobu surprisingly feels the roomiest despite the triple room is the same size as a double, with the sofa converted into a sofa bed. This is the only hotel where there is actual space to walk between the beds and doesn't feel cramped.||Otherwise, the hotel is dated and can use some refreshing/renovations. Our room is on the top floor but close to the street so there is some street noise during the day; at night it's quiet enough but one of our neighbors on our floor was talking loudly late at night. This is the only hotel on our trip that is not as soundproof and I had to wear my earplugs. Also, the curtains aren't very good at blocking out light (as compared to the other 3 hotels we stayed at). Sunrise in April is at 5am so you really want blackout curtains!||Our room has a kettle, pajamas, a mini-fridge, but no in-room safe. Our booking via Agoda included breakfast, but it's a pre-determined set at the Pronto cafe in the lobby, unlike the breakfast buffets we've gotten accustomed to at other hotels on our trip. One can choose either the Japanese set or the Western set. The western breakfast set is just 2 slices of toast, a fried egg and a piece of bacon, a small salad plus a cup of onion soup. If you choose not to get the breakfast set, you can use the breakfast coupon at Pronto for their regular foods anytime after 10am, and has a value of 990 yen. ||I picked this hotel because of its price (good deal on Agoda) and its location. Earlier on our trip we stayed in a hotel in Tsujiki on the east side of Tokyo, but I wanted to stay at a different hotel at the end of our trip on the west side of Tokyo. Tobu is in Shibuya but far north enough that it is at the edge of the super busy/crazy parts. Walking to Shibuya station takes about 10 minutes and not that easy with luggage because you have to navigate through big crowds. The hotel is also a 10-min walk to Yoyogi park if you want to escape the craziness of Shibuya. Another reason I picked this hotel is its proximity to NHK hall where I attended a concert one evening by the NHK Symphony Orchestra. The NHK hall is only a 5-min walk. Also a plus is being able to take the Airport Bus from Shibuya to Haneda Airport. The bus has 3 stops in Shibuya (Mark City, Shibuya station at the Fukurus bldg, and at Cerulean Tower. It is much easier to take the bus than to navigate the subway/train combo, esp with luggage. On the day we took it (Monday midday), it took 45 minutes to reach...
Read moreLocated a little ways, about a 10 minute walk from the JR and Tokyo metro lines, the location of this hotel really convenient especially for a budget friendly hotel. The keyword you have to recognize here is "budget." If you want a 5 star hotel, then you definitely got to put your money's worth in order to receive that type of service. This place was really good for the price and there's a 7-11 and Family Mart outside the building convenient for Atm withdrawals and buying snacks/drinks (alcohol) . It's also very close to coffee shops, even a Starbucks like 2 minutes a way by foot. The staff is friendly, but you should know already that Japanese people are polite and nice people in general. There's also restaurants and bars inside the hotel. Talking about the the single traveler room, it might be really small for people taller than 5ft 6inches ( 169cm). So it might be kinda tough to fit in for tall people. I booked the cheapest single traveler room and it came with free unlimited in-room wifi and a fridge that even had a freezer component in the inside (just saying because that might be a rare commodity in some places;for example, if you were to stay in a hostel). Speaking about the outside exterior design of the building, the building is quite classy with the noticeable white lights at night time. If I'm not mistaken, there's a waterfall on the exterior basement floor that is near the entrance of a restaurant. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with my experience here. I saved a lot of money here compared to booking somewhere else because Shibuya is an expensive place to stay in general. Lastly, this was written by a solo Asian-American traveler. I have many experience traveling and I try to make my reviews based on varies factors solely for the purpose to be unbiased and fair unlike other reviewers. Thanks...
Read moreWe are a family of 4 with 2 young kids aged 5 and 8 and booked 2 rooms for 5 nights. We emailed the hotel a week before arriving and requested them to give us 2 rooms side by side, which they did! There are no connecting rooms though. ||Check in is strictly at 2pm, you can leave your luggage at the lobby until then. We could walk to all the nearby shopping and eateries in Shibuya and also in Harajuku, not more than 20mins walk to everything. ||Room interior is a little dated, but has everything you could want. No amenities are in the room, but there is an amenities corner at the lobby where you can pick up toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. Laundry room on the 2nd floor has 2 washers and 2 dryers, it costs 300yen to use the washer (detergent included) and 100yen per 30mins of the dryer. You need to use 100yen coins for them. ||Breakfast is not buffet, you get a choice between a Japanese set or a western set. The western set includes toast, eggs, a strip of bacon, salad and onion soup. The Japanese set has some sushi and rice. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Tokyo...
