Whilst wandering Shinjuku-Gyommae area, I discovered this character cafe & was instantly drawn in by the cute & artistic presentation of food on the menu. It all went downhill from the moment we set foot in the cafe. Though the cafe was relatively quiet, the serving staff neglected to give any service without being called for. We waited 15 minutes before I called for the waitress so we could order. My husband ordered curry & rice, and I ordered the omurice & Viennese coffee.
Our table was right in the corner, so we didn't get any of the "vibe" or decor of the cafe - there were a few open tables, so we requested to be moved to one of them. The waitress flat out refused - no attempt to understand why or provide an alternative. We rhen waited 40 minutes to be served our order - despite being one of their first few customers for the day.
The Viennese coffee was beautifully presented & a joy to drink - hence this review got one of its stars. The Omurice, though very cutely played & presented, came with 1/4 of the salad that was shown in the menu. I requested to have more salad, as per what was shown on the menu, to which the waitress again said just 'No'. I then showed the waitress the menu - after a bit of back & forth on Google Translate, she apologised and agreed to add more salad. To add salt to the injury, she came back with the same plate of food. Hungry & frustrated - I gave in and just ate the food, only to find that it was just a visual wonder. There was no flavour in the meal & no condiments provided to assist with flavour.
The verdict? Save your money, as the poor service & quality of food far outstrips the Kawaii-ness of...
Read moreWho doesn’t love Cinnamoroll? And wouldn’t it be better if there was a cafe themed after it?
In the heart of Shinjuku Sanchoume, lies a cafe that can help you live your wildest Cinnamoroll dreams.
As I was here on a family trip, we ordered the Omurice and Curry Rice dish for the mains, a Cinnamoroll Pancake and Tiramisu for dessert, and Vienna Coffee and Latte for drinks. The main dishes definitely look great, adorable and very appetizing, however it does hurt to take the first bite, as you don’t want to ruin the beautiful and cutesy craftsmanship by the chefs. Main dishes taste-wise, you can definitely get similar and better quality taste without the looks for a much affordable price. The desserts, on the other hand, are very sweet and delicious, so delicious in fact that I questioned myself why didn’t I just order desserts, and more of them.
Service provided by the waiting staff was excellent. They were friendly and attentive to our demands, and were extremely patient as we tried to explain what we want to order in broken Japanese and English.
In terms of interior design, this is definitely an extremely high quality Cinnamoroll cafe experience! Even I couldn’t resist the sheer amount of Cinnamoroll themed products available for purchase at the counter, and eventually bought a few!
All in all, it is the perfect place to go on a date, or take your family to marvel over such a cute and adorable fellow. Will definitely come back...
Read moreDISAPPOINTED. I identify as a cinnamoroll lover and have done for a while now, so I am prepared to pay slightly higher for poor quality dinky ice coffees. I try my best to speak Japanese and to receive it back ,as I appreciate the inconsiderate stance of expecting everyone to speak English, but I fear I cannot translate nothing. We ordered our overpriced lattes and were not asked if they were takeaway or sit down at any point nor told this-it may of been written on the wall but I fear even my epic Duolingo skills cannot decipher kanji. So I would’ve appreciated being told this while ordering as I desperately wanted to sit down. So completely unaware I sat down only to have a waitress then come over and tell me I needed to have ordered a sit down one (even the menu did not distinguish this) I would’ve happily there on the spot payed whatever the price difference was to retain my seat, but that was not an option. No matter how friendly they look and how softly they speak it doesn’t change how utterly frustrating and off putting this experience was, I held nothing against cinnamoroll just those adorable waitresses as I walked back out into the boiling streets with my mediocre latte that cost me more than it should but apparently not the luxury of...
