I researched the best coffee shops in Asakusa and decided to visit this one. I had a disappointing experience at this café due to the service quality. I arrived at 4:08 PM and requested a cold brew or cold pour-over using a specific type of beans they offered. While I understand that they were unable to accommodate this request, the way the staff member communicated was unprofessional and impolite.
I mentioned that my friend would be arriving shortly, but the staff insisted that I place his order at the same time as mine, as the last order was supposed to be at 4:30 PM. I informed them that he would arrive around 4:20 PM, and he actually arrived at 4:18 PM. I proceeded to order a strong latte (with an extra charge), a hot latte, and a double shot of espresso for him. However, I noticed that other customers who arrived around 4:30 PM were still able to place orders, and one even ordered additional items at 4:40 PM.
Additionally, when we left, the staff did not acknowledge us or say thank you, which is considered impolite in Japan.
My family has a long-standing tradition in the coffee business in Vietnam, so I have truly experienced every café where I have visited.. As for the coffee itself, the quality of the beans was quite average—dark roasted but lacking depth in flavor. I’ve read on the internet that this was one of the top five cafés in the Asakusa area. However, to be honest, the coffee quality falls far behind other local cafés. It lacks distinct taste notes and has no outstanding aroma.
Overall, my experience was disappointing, and I do not...
Read morestopped by a small, quaint cafe as I had some time to spare before catching my train to the airport.
I ordered chestnut pudding and an Americano matcha latte. The chestnut pudding didn’t taste sweet at all and instead had a bitter flavor, more like the chestnut itself. It wasn’t to my taste, but people who enjoy the natural flavor of ingredients might appreciate it.
At this cafe, you can only stay for an hour, and they give you a tag with the time limit when they bring your order.
When I first came in, I looked around to check if there were any available seats, but they told me to “order first.” I found that a bit off-putting, but I tried to understand.
Even as I stood at the counter discussing what to order while looking at the menu, I heard “order first” again.
It hadn’t even been 20 seconds since I walked in, and I was already told the same thing three times, which didn’t leave a good impression.
As for the Americano, it had a burnt taste. If you’re accustomed to high-end coffee from Japan, this would just be mediocre. The matcha latte didn’t have a strong matcha flavor either, and it was quite average.
While writing this, two more customers came in, and once again, I heard the staff say “order first” as they looked for seats.
How can you order before knowing if there’s even a seat available? Ridiculous.
I didn’t try the baked goods, so I can’t speak to that, but overall, the food tastes quite average. However, if you enjoy the raw flavor of ingredients, you might like this place.
I wouldn’t...
Read morei followed the cafe guide book to here and wanted to try its caramel egg pudding! at the time i went was late May and the seasonal pudding was strawberry, but it was already sold out. so i had an original pudding and a soda to go with. the pudding looked so good with whip cream on its top and a canned cherry! i'm not a fan of this cherry so just left it a side. the pudding was smooth and even better to eat with whip cream. but i think the flavour of eggs and caramel could be stronger. time for eat in was limited to 90-100 mins (sorry i don't remember exactly). it was good enough for having a rest and a pudding like me, but not friendly for people that want to chat with besties in the afternoon. like usual, i dislike limiting time and would take away a star from Service for it.
