Please note that there are several APA hotels within a small radius in the Asakusa station area, and this review is for the APA Asakusa Kaminarimon South location only. This hotel is extremely close to the APA Asakusa Kaminarimon North (sometimes referred to as APA Asakusa Kaminarimon), a tiny block away. Because of its close proximity, it does not have some of the services that are provided by the other hotel (restaurant). It also is not one of the locations with a sento public bath (that would be the nearby APA Kuramae location). However, they do have a small convenience store area (several shelves and a cooler with drinks) in their lobby, which has a few critical items available for those in too big a rush to walk to the Family Mart 5 minutes away. The location for this hotel is excellent, it's a 5 minute walk from the 2a and 2b exits of the Asakusa station on the Asakusa line, and less than 10 minute walk from the Asakusa station on the Ginza line. It takes about an hour from Narita on the Keisei Skyliner, transferring at the Keisei Ueno station. It's extremely close to the Kaminarimon gate of Sensoji Temple (about 5 minute walk), and the many restaurants and shops that surround Sensoji. There's also an Ozeki market right across the street from Kaminarimon, which is cheaper than the 3+ Family Marts within a 5 minute radius of the hotel. The hotel is a standard business hotel, standard APA hotel design. It has the automated check-in machine popular at hotels. The rooms have the option to skip cleaning (just fresh towels), and they do not change the bed linens daily. Each room has its own wifi access, which means that the wifi is quite fast and reliable. Also, it has the APA-standard power switch for the fridge, if you use the fridge, to save on electricity. The rooms do not come with chargers, as is standard at some business hotels, but the rooms are well-designed with outlets by the head of the bed. Rooms are stocked with hot water pot, teas, robes, water (on check-in only), and basic toiletries in the bathrooms. Good water pressure in the bathrooms, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Room is standard business hotel size, you will want to store your luggage under the bed or there is room for nothing else. Well-organized and clean, standard good business hotel, this location is fairly new so the rooms are well-appointed and everything is...
Read moreI stayed 7 nights here. The first two were the worst, I could barely sleep. My TV kept turning on at random intervals.. I reported it but they couldn't fix it, and could only move me on the 3rd day since it was a weekend and they were fully booked. So this rating is for my experience in 2 different rooms.
In terms of cleanliness, my first room was so dusty. Found a lot of white dirt (?) floating around and on the floor too. Top of the TV was also very dirty. My second room was a bit cleaner, but the bottle of body wash HAD HAIR INSIDE? Who knows what else was in there lol. The guy at reception immediately ran to another branch to refill a clean new bottle. Scheduled housekeeping turned off my fridge 😬 Had to leave a note for the next time they cleaned my room.
Service was okay. Some can speak minimal english, but definitely ready a translator on your phone. There were helpful ones, as well as very indifferent receptionists. Didn't get their names, but the male staff were more helpful and friendly.
The only thing I liked about this hotel is the location. Not so bustling at night unlike Ikebukuro, Shibuya, or Shinjuku. A lot of tourists a few blocks away during daytime as it is very near Nakamise-dori and Sensoji. Near multiple stations, and direct access to the airport (Asakusa station has an elevator from platform to ticket gates, then another at exit a2b).
Overall, I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you don't really have a choice. My standards were low, I really only needed a place to sleep and shower in (that wasn't a capsule hotel), but this was a big...
Read moreThe APA Asakusa Kaminarimon Minami Hotel assisted us with a group reservation. We had 20 rooms reserved in this hotel and its sister property next door, but we would like to comment on this one specifically since it had most guests stay in this location. The rooms are around 100 sq. ft., meeting the needs of any solo business traveler with all the necessary amenities included. One of the things that I enjoyed about the double or full-sized bedroom is that the bed is quite comfortable, the bathroom is spacious enough, and a desk is also available to work or conduct Zoom sessions. The location is excellent for Asakusa's temple, restaurants, convenience stores, train stations, and other destinations in Tokyo. In addition, if you want breakfast, the APA Asakusa Kaminarimon's Tsunago restaurant serves it next door. It is only a block away and opens around 06:30 to 10:00 am (please remember to bring your meal vouchers each morning if you have a breakfast package). Special thanks to Miwa, Yoshiko, and Tet. These three ladies went above and beyond to ensure everyone was content and happy with breakfast. Finally, I give K. Kubota great thanks for trying to be helpful always during our moment of need. We will consider this property when we need to...
