We were at Takashimaya Times Square in Shinjuku and tried Japanese dried fish for the first time at the Ginza Bansuke outlet located on the 14th floor. The server, who spoke English quite fluently, gave us a seat overlooking Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. We had a good view of the garden and the surrounding neighbourhood. We ordered two sets of dried seafood, each of which had 3 types. The dried fish for both sets (Fatty Atka mackerel, fatty mackerel, and red fish) and (Sablefish, flounder, and salmon) were delicious. The fish was grilled to perfection, and the texture of the fish was firm yet not dried out. The server told us to end our meal by adding a bit of the dried fish into the rice. She brought over the dashi, and we poured the soup onto the rice and added mitsuba and wasabi for a yummy "Dashi Chazuke." There is also dried fish in beautifully wrapped boxes which one can buy...

Wow! The quality of the grilled fish here is one of the best I’ve tried in Tokyo because it’s dried before it’s grilled to serve. The fish comes out still sizzling slightly and smells so so good. All their dishes come in a set with really nice side dishes. It has stewed vegetables, jelly served in black sugar syrup, other sweet and savoury condiments. The other highlight for me is their soup, made with thick creamy broth. Nearing the end of your meal, you can request for dashi broth (I think it’s also made with pork/chicken broth) to finish off with your rice. It’s such a hearty meal. Take note that they are a cash-only place so make sure you have cash. There are plenty of...

Very friendly and attentive staff. Menu in English available. We went at lunch time, there was no waiting line. If you don't know what to order, just choose one of the options (A, B or C) available from the lunch menu, whatever you choose you won't be disappointed. Once served, you can ask for some broth to be brought to you so you can make yourself an ochazuke. Portions of rice and miso soup can be repeated at no extra charge. I believe they only...
