Started out waiting 20 minutes past our reservation even though we got there 10 min early. I can understand if there were multiple reservations around the same time and first come first; we just didn’t know that with our reservation, it happens, no big deal. They told us it would take a while for skewer orders and we were honestly just happy to be there and so a 20+ min wait wasn’t that big of a deal. Our first set of orders went off without a hitch. Then came the second set of orders. Here’s where things got rocky. We ordered: 2 thighs, 1 green onion wrap, 1 gizzard, and 1 sukiyaki. 10 min later, we ordered 1 chicken butt and 1 chicken neck. We received the neck and butt first to our surprise but assumed it was because it was a small order. Then we received our second set of orders, except no gizzard, instead we got tomato. We let them know and they apologized and had a 4 person conversation about the confusion between both servers and both chefs and told us “sorry your gizzards are on the way.”
30 min later, we were handed our check. I stated that we never got our gizzards (to make sure it wasn’t on the check); we were honestly surprised that they forgot especially after the large conversation they had about the confusion. But they asked if we wanted it still and we said no; the confusing thing is our check price never changed. We decided to translate the check (we’re not Japanese) and we found out that they not only DIDN’T put in the gizzard order but STILL TRIED TO CHARGE US FOR THE TOMATO THEY TOOK BACK. What started out with a 20 min wait with a reservation ended with a 30+min wait for a promised order that never came, charging us for an order we never ate, and an expectation for us to triple check THEIR bill in a language that was foreign to us. We were quite literally in talks, while eating, about scheduling to come back before we leave Japan, but the lack of effort to fix their mistakes or to compensate for us quite literally waiting for absolutely nothing to only be insulted by the same server (who was handling all the issues) handing us the bill was more than enough to change our mind. The food was so delicious, it’s disappointing to know it was the personnel that makes us not want to go back.
Edit: Realizing how often these “mistakes” and “miscalculations” happen, I’m changing my stars to 1....
Read moreI had a terrible experience here.
I reserved two motsu nabe course for our anniversary dinner on TableCheck. This was our first trip to Japan together. However, we never even received motsu nabe. I wanted my partner to try motsu nabe in Japan for the first time. The motsu nabe set menu items came very slowly, we waited about 15 minutes between each course. The dining experience took well over 2 hours. When boiled dumplings was placed in front of me, I did not recognize that the wrong dish was placed in front of us. My partner questioned if, because it had none of the elements of motsu nabe that was familiar with at home. I was so tired, I didn't question if t either until we read the description of motsu nabe again and realized we only received four dumplings and cabbage in pork broth. They only discounted the course by 1000¥, from 5500¥ per person to 4500¥. On the a la carte menu, one order of boiled dumplings is 980¥ versus ONE SERVING of motsu nabe is 1800¥. Which you think sounds fair, except we were supposed to received TWO servings of motsu nabe, totaling 3600¥. Only 1000¥ discount for receiving a 3600¥ item cost to a single 980¥ item?? I was ripped off.
We heard the staff talking amongst each other about why we were still sitting there after finishing the dumplings, and eventually a waitress asked us if we were finished but we were waiting for dessert for like 20 minutes, after she specifically asked us if we wanted noodles for the broth or a dessert instead.
They did offer to serve the motsu nabe after we asked them about the boiled dumplings we received was not part of the motsu nabe course - but since we had already dined for over 2 hours, we were too full and tired to wait however long for them to serve motsu nabe again. I was about to pass out from exhaustion.
Wrong dish orders happened to many other dining parties as well, so it wasn't just happening to us, but everyone. They tried to serve us someone else's dish on multiple occasions and we saw other tables get food taken away because it wasn't theirs or were wrongly billed. It seems the staff were disorganized and they kept putting the wrong orders to the wrong tables.
I will not be returning here due to my terrible experience for what was supposed to be a...
Read moreEdit: after 9 days in Japan, we’ve figured out that the best places to eat at the ones that don’t show up on Google and where all the locals are lining up for a long wait…
It comes down to this: We didn’t have the best experience and would not recommend this place for a few reasons. First: everything is wrapped in bacon. I don’t eat pork/beef/seafood plus other allergies so my options are limited. When I ordered all the veggies, excited and super hungry, the last thing I expected was for everything to be wrapped in pork. Super frustrating and disappointing. My boyfriend ate everything I ordered and he was pretty grossed out by it at the end of the meal, too. It’s just a lot, especially when you’re expecting an authentic Japanese yakitori. This place is not it.
We were surrounded by Aussies, Koreans, Americans, and Italians. I think out of the 5 Japanese in the whole place, three were the waiters and cook.
If you’re really into bacon, overspending for a meal, and don’t care about an authentic Japanese experience while in Japan, this is your place. Not to mention we agreed to dining with/sharing a large table in the back (ended up being with two kicking kids playing with toys the whole time), then right after they served our meal, they interrupted us and asked us to move tables to a accommodate a large party. Very annoying and frustrating, to say the least. Especially just after getting plate after plate of pork wrapped food when we were expecting veggies. Oh, plus the food is served little by little. So we didn’t even get to eat together. It was just 2-3 skewers at a time.
We left disappointed and frustrated. I could have spent 990¥ (instead of ¥9900)for a much better meal at Lawson and had a more authentic experience in my hotel lobby.
Came here on a Sunday at 19:30hrs, had to wait just a few minutes outside, we didn’t have a reservation. Take your chances or don’t and eat...
