I have tried a lot of European restaurants in Japan and they all, without exception, are sadly way below anything you will ever taste in their respective European countries. They don't have standards and they're betting on the inexperienced Japanese customers. And it seems to be working because many European restaurants with abysmal and insultingly bad food, have a lot of customers. This one though, this restaurant right here, The moment I ate the first bite of the moussaka, I knew that somebody went to Greece specifically to find out how to cook or in this case, how to make moussaka. My reasoning is that there are not many Greek restaurants in Japan, which means probably that anyone who dares to open a Greek restaurant has to absolutely Master the art of Greek cuisine. Because it's not a very Well-Known cuisine in Japan, they have to try their best. Or else the customer will probably not return again. If this moussaka was given to me by my grandmother in a mountain village in Greece- I would not question it. It was 99% authentic taste and I applaud...
Read moreThe only thing going here is the decor, which is an all wood interior even if it doesn't quite conjure up being in Greece (but then that's a tall order for anywhere in Shinjuku!). The service was fine, with plates delivered from the ¥4,780 set menu - no other choice was available - one after the other with a minimal of warmth by the waiter. Cutting to the chase, the dishes were nothing more than okay: the Greek salad could've and should've had more of everything, like olives and feta; the moussaka was clearly microwaved and not very warm at that, with a particular peeve the fact we were served a single portion although we were paying for two set menus; the humus and taziki were miniscule portions, though that often happens in Tokyo; and there was no dessert or hot drink of any sort included in the menu. With two bottles of wine, the bill came to ¥18,500, and I'm happy to pay that when the feeling at the end is of a hearty meal, which was very far from my first thought...
Read moreUnexpected Greek restaurant in kabukicho. At some times, it seems they only have course as an option - so be aware. Choose the cheapest course at around 4600 JPY. The amount of food is adequate to the price. The salad felt somewhat off. However, all the other dishes were good. Particularly, the gyros (main dish) and the soup were good. The carpaccio also was quite delicious. The cheese with apples was a little bit strong, but not too much. The ambience is very nice, with space thematics - special mention to the moon. I guess they can hold up to 20 people and can be a good place for...
