Old Saigon Ueno Okachimachi — Restaurant in Tokyo

Sad, sad, sad Bun Cha Hanoi... The dish came out missing its signature charred pork and meatballs, being substituted by some sausage chunks instead. The accompanying greens were only lettuce and cucumber, resembling nothing of that refreshing herbal punch of mint, basil, or perilla one would normally expect from this dish.

Honestly, I was so disappointed I wanted to question the restaurant but refrained as I'm not Vietnamese myself and felt bad questioning the integrity of their food when the whole place is run exclusively by Vietnamese people. I thought, maybe there are different styles of Bun Cha Hanoi, if only much less satisfying? I've only lived in and around prominent Vietnamese neighborhoods in the US and Melbourne, and this was so inferior to the Bun Cha Hanoi's I had had before, I was so confused.

Looking through the reviews now I see that several people have left negative reviews of their Bun Cha Hanoi, raising the same points as mine. I left feeling very disappointed as I'd found this place by accident and seemed promising upon entering. Not worth your time or money, especially in Tokyo where there's no shortage of great food at all...

I just came to this restaurant with my Latin friends today. I ordered for him "Bun Bo Hue" and it turned out the best choice of this restaurant, despite a small portion.

However, when I ordered "Bun Cha Ha Noi", I felt regretful the moment that I saw it. Instead of barbecue meat (pork), they served us with grilled Chikuwa (cheap, low quality, easy to buy in any supermarket). In addition, it is really small portion and I feel nothing in my stomach after eating it. To be honest, this is the worst, weirdest "Bun Cha Ha Noi" that I have ever eaten in my life. I ordered "Hủ tiếu" to fill my hunger. It is good but not so special.

I walked around to see the beautiful photos on the wall and intended to talk to the staff about the food. However, they seem so quiet and do not wanna talk.

You'd better to change the ingredients and price. More importantly, you'd better to serve the customers in a open and friendly way rather than sitting...

Came with a group of 5 and were seated immediately. It took 20 minutes for our water to come out. Food came out separately, nearly 40 minutes between the first and last dish. One person had to wait over an hour for their food, after they brought out the wrong dish and took it away. When the last dish finally came out, an older woman brought it out, placed it at the very end of the table, and didn’t even mention how long we had been waiting, let alone apologize. Service was extremely slow, and it seemed like the waiters were never around. The prices listed on the menu were not the same as the one one the final bill (tax was not included).
