💯 Gluten-free. No cross contamination 💜 this hidden bakery is run by a friendly, bilingual couple.
Every item is made with rice flour —no nut flours—so you know it’s all safe. There are vegan and non-veggie options.
The rice bread is moist and chewy—I’m glad I took some home to reheat. Reasonably priced, you’ll want to take some to go as well.
It’s a walk up window (the door leads to the kitchen as I accidentally tried 😂) And it’s easy to see they sell out by the end of the day. I walked up at 2PM and still got a few good choices. I’ll go back earlier to try a few other options. The GF pizza looks delicious.
No seating, but you can eat 1 item at the cafe next door when you order a drink or soup. The cafe next door is also run by a fascinating woman who speaks English fluently as well. Different restaurants but a good working relationship. The soups do have gluten but the drinks and AMAZAKE are GF. The best AMAZAKE I’ve ever had (usually I don’t like it) I’ll definitely go back.
Wished I’d taken photos but the owners were so interesting that I...
Read moreMr. Yusuke and his wife are lovely people. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their kindness in preparing such delicious bread that was safe for our family member with multiple food allergies including to wheat and eggs. They helped us identify which items would be safe over email. They also prepared and set aside some breads to avoid cross contact. Our family was very moved by their kindness and hospitality.
I highly recommend taking the shelf stable gluten free udon noodles home. The ingredients are only rice and Konyak. It is vacuum packed and super easy to prepare (dunk in hot water for a short time). We made fettuccine with them and they were superb in flavor, shape, and texture. These are noodles they make in house. I have not come across a similar gluten free udon noodle in the US. We have tried many gluten free noodles and these are some of the most delicious and easy to prepare that we’ve had. It would make a wonderful gift or souvenir to continue to...
Read moreThis was my favorite bakery I went to on my 3 week trip in Japan! I went 3 times in a week and would have gone more if they were open! The cube bread, baguette, and sausage rolls were so good but my favorite (also my non-gf husband’s favorite) were the curry buns. They were buns filled with curry, almost like a hand pie and they were truly delicious. I wish I could have them all the time!
It was difficult traveling on Japan with a gluten allergy, especially because there were so many tasty looking buns and breads and pastries, but thanks to Ricehack I got to try all the goodies in a gf version! I’m very grateful for that!
I encourage anyone, even without a gluten intolerance, to go. They really know how to use rice flour in a way that makes their baked goods have the taste and texture of those with gluten. I’m...
